Good afternoon and welcome to the Sportskeeda liveblog of the Denmark Open 2017 first round. The India No. 1 Srikanth Kidambi faces Indian qualifier Subhankar Dey for a second round berth.

This is a relatively easy opener for the Australian Open and Indonesia Open champion. Dey is ranked 74th, 66 places below the World No. 8 Srikanth and the two never met before. Dey won two rounds of qualifying in three games to reach this stage. Even though he has been improving fast of late, this is a tough match for Subhankar.

Srikanth will be eager to get back to winning ways after two back-to-back quarter-final appearances at the World Championships and the Japan Open Superseries. Considering he won two consecutive Superseries events before that, more was definitely expected from the Guntur-born ace shuttler.

He would like to get off to a good start in Denmark and get a lot of confidence before a possible quarter-final meeting with the World No. 1 and reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen.
