Tokyo Olympics Archery updates: Deepika Kumari to meet Karma of Bhutan in R64 on July 28

Earlier this morning, we had Deepika Kumari competing in the women's individual ranking round.

The opening ranking round tells us a lot about how the archery competition will pan out and what can be expected from the women's individual round, at this year's Olympics.

Deepika Kumari will be in action at around 2 pm on July 28 when she will meet Bhutan's Karma in the first round (R64).

Korea's An San scores an Olympic record score of 680!

The Korean broke Lina Herasymenko's record of 673 points, set way back in 1996.

Deepika Kumari's R64 opponent Karma of Bhutan scored 616 in the ranking round to finish 56th.

Karma scored 306 in the first half and 310 in the second half.
Deepika scored 334 in the first half and 329 in the second.

This is Deepika Kumari's second-best ranking wise and her best score.

For the record, Deepika Kumari scored 662/720 at the London Olympics and finished 8th after the ranking rounds..

In Rio de Janeiro she scored 640/720, finished 20th.

The Koreans fill up the top-three positions on the leader board.

The Ranchi-based archer scored 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 8 for a total of 53 in the 11th round.

Deepika Kumari slips to 7th position again after scoring 53 in the penultimate set of the ranking round.

The top three places are with Korea. While Korea's An San leads with a score of 568, Kang Chae Young with 564 and Jang Minhee with 562 are second and third respectively.

Deepika Kumari again managed only a 7-pointer with the 54th arrow, or the last arrow of the 9th set. Looks like the last arrows aren't doing any good for the Indian.

An San with 513 and Jang Minhee with 507 lead the charts.

A reminder

This is the ranking round, or basically a seeding round. The archers will be ranked from 1 to 64 after the end of five more rounds.

The top ranked archer will then play the 64th ranked, the second placed ranker will lock horns with the 63rd placed and so on.
