Hello and Welcome to Sporstkeeda's LIVE coverage of the BWF World Championships. Next up is the quarterfinal match between Saina Nehwal and Carolina Marin.

09:31 (IST)3 AUG 2018

Three Indians have managed to reach the quartefinal stage of the Badminton World Championships. While Sai Praneeth made it to the Top 8 in Men's Singles and will face the in-form Kento Momota, both of India's top women shuttlers made to the qurterfinals.

Sindhu will be locking horns with Nozomi Okuhara later in the day, which is set to be a reach of last year's final and promises to be a thrilling encounter.

In the upcoming encounter, 10th seed Saina will take on arch-rival and 7th seed, Carolina Marin. The ace Indian shuttler has been in tremendous form, having received a bye in the first round, she easily brushed asided the challenges of Turkey's Aliye Demirbag in Round 2 and 4th seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand in Round 3. She defeated the 4th seed 21-16, 21-19 in straight sets and was in sublime touch yesterday.

Carolina Marin, too, has had a superb campaign and has not dropped a set till now.

The Spaniard trails Nehwal 5-6 in their head-to-head meetings, but has had the upper hand in the most crucial finals, that includes their face-off for the gold medal at this very tournament three years ago.

Having said that, it is to be noted that the southpaw is not the same invincible force anymore. She hasn't won a title on the BWF circuit since the Japan Open in September last year. Highly inconsistent at present, she lost her very next match to Nehwal right after her triumph in Tokyo.

Saina played a very smart and clean match against the dangerous Ratchanok Intanon in the third round on Thursday, which should have given her a huge boost of confidence. That might just spur her on for a win over the two-time world champion Marin as well.

The encounter between the Indian and Spanish players promises to a cracker. Stay tuned for some exciting updates.
