But don't get it wrong, it was not for a lack of trying. The Egyptians have shown enough heart today. Can they add some grit and sharpness to have something to show for it?

Anyway, the match has ended Egypt 1-0 Uruguay. That's the bloody World Cup for you. Never short of excitement.

94' Egypt will feel hard done by the result but there is still some time left on the clock for them to snatch one back. Can they do it? Fathy swings one into the area but Gimenez heads it out of danger. They get the ball back in again and Elneny goes for goal from the edge of the area. Suarez runs away with the ball and is hacked to the ground by Ahmed Hegazi.

93' Trezeguet trots off the field after picking up a knock in that coming together with Varela.

92' Varela throws himself to protect the ball and is mowed down by Trezeguet. The former Manchester United man will remain on the ground in a bid to run the clock out.

It has finally arrived for Uruguay and the Atletico defender is swarmed upon by his entire squad. Egypt can't believe it! They held on for so long!

88' Uruguay have a freekick on the right side, near the corner flag. Sanchez is on it.

84' Egypt breaking forward now. El Said down the middle, shuffles it to Shafy on the left wing. They are staying patient, playing the waiting game trying to bait the Uruguayan defenders out of their zones. But it doesn't work as Suarez tries to force the issue with a driving run. However, he can't pull it off and that fizzles out.

84' Sanchez takes it but nobody gets at the end of it and Egypt clear the danger and Uruguay are forced to back to their defence.

82' MOMENT OF THE MATCH! WHAT AN ABSOLUTE STUNNER OF A SAVE FROM A STUNNER OF A SHOT!
Suarez and Cavani linking up to perfection on the edge of the area and the latter thunders in a volley that's crying out loud to embrace the netting but El Shenawy has been on top of his game and pulls off a magnificent save to keep the Egyptians in the game.

80' Trezeguet tries to slide the ball through Bentancur's legs on the edge of the area but the latter ain't having none of that and get Uruguay running on the counter. A ball is floated into the area but Hegazi heads it out of danger. El Said drives ahead with the ball and slides it back to Elneny. Egypt slow down and El Said still makes inroads with his deft touches and movement but ultimately the ball falls to Elneny and he is falling backwards as he gets his shot away. It sails into the stands.

79' Space a plenty for Kahraba and he runs to the edge of the box on the left side and drag it back but Gimenez slides in and clears it out of danger. Should have made more of that.

76' Godin intercepts the ball off and Sanchez gets on the end of it. The captain drives ahead into the box but Sanchez' ball into the box is overhit and it rolls out for a goalkick before Godin can put his foot through it.

75' Uruguay are keeping the ball but Egypt are defending deep and defending well. It's really going to take something special to beat this Egyptian defence.

74' Rodriguez tries to chase down a long ball that's propelled to the left flank by Gimenez but it was too heavy and he will watch it go out for an Egypt throw-in.

73' OH SUAREZ! WHAT DID YOU DO?!
The Barcelona hitman is played into the box by a delightful by Cavani and Suarez, instead of going for goal tries to round up El Shenawy who runs out and gathers the ball from the striker's feet. That's quite brave from the Egyptian goalkeeper. Poor from Suarez though. He should have had 2 goals by now.

72' Elneny slides in to win the ball from Bentancur and they glide forward. Kahraba switches the wing and Fathy gets a thunderous shot away but its hit straight at Muslera who catches the ball. Quite a good sight that.

71' Karahba tries to whip one into the area but it falls behind Morsy as one more Egypt attack comes to nothing.

70' Sanchez corner goes straight to Cavani who tries to dance past a couple of defenders and gets his shot away but his teammate Caceres catches it with his hand in an attempt to avoid bodily harm and Egypt get a freekick.

69' Rodriguez doing the chunk of the playmaking as he combines well with Suarez down the centre and then releases Nandez on the wing. The cross is deflected and Uruguay have a corner.

68' Sanchez goes for goal from 25 yards out but Hegazi gets in the way and once again snuffs out the danger.

67' Elneny, Karahba and Said all combine to create some magic down the right flank but ultimately it fizzles out as Muslera comes out and gathers the ball.

66' Hegazi once again with an excellent interception. He slides in this time to stop an optimistic but precise through ball that was falling into Cavani's path.

65' Kahraba steals the ball and tries to go forward but Uruguay regain the ball and Rodriguez bombs ahead once again but Fathi stands his ground and blocks the cross. He once again proves that he is up to the task with some intense defending which sees the ball roll out for a throw-in. The 33-year-old has been a rock at the back for Egypt today.

64' Kahraba is nicknamed 'Electricity'. Missing element in Egypt's game? I certainly think so.

63' Caceres bombes forward down the leg side and sends one in with vicious pace into the danger area but Hegazi's timely interception thwarts the danger.

61' Uruguay have a freekick near the centre of the park. Sanchez floats it in and Suarez is flagged offside as the evening gets even more frustrating for the Barcelona man.

61' Rodriguez tries to lob a ball into the danger area but Warda is there to block him off. Uruguay go all the way back to the goalkeeper in an attempt to write on a clean slate from scratch. But Egypt are proving to be quite difficult to break down.

59' Suarez tries to lay the ball off to Cavani on the brink of the area but El Said tracks back efficiently and intercepts much to the surprise of the PSG striker.

58' The youngsters have been replaced by the old guard. Will that spark a change? Only time will tell.

56' Uruguay lose the ball in the attacking third once again and invites Egypt to break on the counter. It looks promising until Fathi's ball inwards from the right flank is intercepted and Uruguay break on a counter of their own. The game is opening up. We are in for an entertaining final 30 minutes.

54' Egypt keeping the ball, scoping their attacking half for openings. Uruguay don't look to keen to win the ball back. However, Trezeguet latches on to it and goes for goal from 30 yards out and sends the ball straight into the advertising hoardings.

51' Nandez digs a ball into the area but neither Cavani or Suarez can capitalize on it and Egypt steal the ball and break forward on the counter. But Godin once again steps in and clears the danger when its most needed as Egypt get the ball into the box from the right flank.

51' Trezeguet wins the ball and motors into the final third but boss Godin steps it and asks him to bugger off with that prancing. But Egypt regather their troops and Shafy lays it onto Trezeguet on the left side but the latter's poke trying to find Mohsen rolls out for a goalkick.

50' Gimenez leathers one trying to find Cavani but Egypt pump the ball out of danger.

48' Hamed doesn't look like he can continue and that's a big blow to Egypt. He has been a nuisance as far as Uruguay is concerned. A change is imminent.

47' Egypt escape with the ball but Trezeguet is stopped in his tracks as Uruguay try to launch an attack of their own. Arrascaeta bumps into Hamed and there's a breakage in play as Egypt get a freekick. They surrender position immediately afterwards however. Hamed is down on the ground but. The medical team is out on the field.

45' Cavani plays Suarez into the box and Hegazi is caught out. The Barcelona man finds the space in behind him but El Shenawy closes the angle and makes himself big and saves the day for the Egyptians!
