WWE NXT Results, Live Recap, Grades: HUGE CONTROVERY surrounds main event tag team match!!!!

OVERALL GRADE FOR WWE NXT FOR JANUARY 28TH, 2025: B.
The match of the night was the opening contest between Cora Jade/Roxanne Perez and Giulia/Bayley. Since it has been building over a few weeks across multiple shows, it didn't make sense for it to open the show. The men's matches were okay but the women's tag team bouts were the highlights. The opening match was much better, however. Trick being mad that he's not getting a title shot seems more like complaining rather than a valiant guy who was cheated, which he wasn't. He lost in a triple threat and was the person who was pinned. Good sowing of dissent with Fatal Influence and Jade/Perez.

The show then cuts to the color bars reading "WWE Transmission." It then switches to Vengeance Day, perhaps signaling a potential return or debut.

Jakara hits a Sling Blade on Naomi before tagging Lash in. They hit their tandem finisher but Belair breaks up the pin. The ref has decided not to call anything as all four women are in the ring. Everyone is down on the ground after Naomi counters a move. Lash hits Naomi with a big boot. Jakara tags in and they go for their finisher again. Belair sends Lash into the steel steps on the outside. She tries to roll Naomi up and the ref nearly counts the closest three count you'll see but stops. Bianca and Naomi hit a tandem KOD for the win.
Result - Bianca Belair and Naomi defeat Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson by pin.

GRADE: B.
The match had a clunky start but picked up a few times. Lash added a nice new handstand/moonsault combo but too many women already do that move. Meta Four could have won a few times. Since there wasn't a title change or a debut during the match, placing it as the main event was a big mistake.

Bianca Gorilla Press slams Naomi before hitting her usual handstand into a standing moonsault for two on Jakara. Naomi tags in and they hit a Kick variant of a Doomsday Device. Lash bust it up before a pin attempt. Bianca tries to hit a KOD on Lash but she blocks it. Lash hits Bianca with a forearm and Jackson hits a Suicide Dive on the outside.

Lash has Naomi trapped off the commercial break. Vic mentioned that Lash is from Atlanta, so there could definitely be a title change. Lash goes for more offense but Naomi counters with a Blockbuster. Picture in picture shows Cora Jade demanding to speak with Ava. Naomi tags Belair in for her usual hot tag and she hits her strikes, standing suplex, and strikes in the corner. She does her usual flip over the opponent before hitting a sloppy Hurricanrana on Lash.

Both women whiff at dropkicks before both hitting kippups. They then trash talk and smack booties as the show hits the commercial break.

Jackson and Naomi start things off. They trade a few pin attempts. Belair tags in and they hit some tandem offense. Jakara tags Lash in. Lash overpowers Bianca but Bianca recovers to hit a back body drop and a standing Shooting Star Press for a one-count. Lash hits a Uranage backbreaker but wastes a few seconds to set up a handstand into a moonsault for two.

Vic teases that NXT hasn't had tag titles since 2023. No, just no. Main event time. Good to see Bianca and Naomi focused on who attacked Jade Cargill . . . .

Before the main event, we get a segment featuring Josh Briggs and Inamura. Briggs gives him a leather vest to signify his journey and friendship.

That jaw must not really hurt if Evans keeps rushing into danger.

Page tries to inflict more damage but Je'Von Evans and his "injured" jaw come out to make the save. Evans lands a bunch of wild punches to send Page packing. Way to sell the "not cleared" status. Backstage, Fallon Henley addresses how Stephanie Vaquer "stole her moment" after she beat Shozi. She announces that Jacy will face her next week after Vaquer rampaged through the backstage area last week.

All Ego maintains control by working on Ceddy's injured hand. He slams it against the top rope until Alexander fights back. Ceddy hits a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. He adds a Brainbuster for another near fall. Ceddy counters into a Koji Clutch off the pin but Page breaks it by going to work on Ceddy's fingers like he's Pete Dunne. They trade strikes until Alexander lands a flurry of offense. He goes for a handspring move but Page kicks him in the arm. Page then hits a Twist of Fate for the win.
Result - Ethan Page defeats Cedric Alexander by pin.

GRADE: B.
A slower pace than the other matches. Some good counters and use of the ringside stuff.

Alexander continues his early dominance with strikes from the mount. Page holds the ropes and hits Alexander in his injured arm. He goes for a suplex but Ceddy counters out. Page grabs his injured arm. Page rolls out of the ring. All Ego drops Ceddy on his back on the ring apron. He then tries to pull off Alexander's brace. Page shoves Cedric into the ring post but he kicks Page. Page then shoves him into the post again, but hand-first this time.

Ceddy is much more aggressive with strikes in the corner. Corey Graves sticks up for All Ego, saying he saw him when he was younger and he's doing what he has to do to get the attention of the NXT Universe. Booker T agrees. Ceddy drops him with a big dropkick.

Up next is Ethan Page taking on Cedric Alexander again. Before the match, Ava is moping around backstage. Sarah interviews her and she says she wants to find Giulia the best possible competition for Vengeance Day. Roxanne Perez cuts her off because she still hasn't had her rematch. Ava says it will be Perez and Bayley challenging Giulia at the event. Perez is happy with the news but Jade is not because Perez blamed their loss on her.

Stephanie Vaquer comes out after Henley retains. They'll face off at Vengeance Day.

Kelani Jordan is a big girl now and she argues with Karmen Petrovic after Karmen tries to thank her for "helping" her against Jaida Parker last week. Jordan claims she didn't do it to help her and that everyone knows Ashante Adonis is going to drop her faster than a referee officiating a Kansas City Chiefs' game.

Fallon goes for a Superplex but Shotzi kicks her off the buckle. She hits a Senton off the top for a close call. The Champ goes for a pumphandle move but SHotzi counters into a pin attempt. She goes for another Sliced Bread but Fallon counters to trap her in the corner. Fallon hits a modified Exploder Suplex before landing a Famouser-type leg drop for the win.
Result - Fallon Henley defeats Shotzi by pin.

GRADE: B-.
Decent chemistry but a few missed spots. Shotzi did well to fight through the injury, hitting a few high-risk spots.

Fallon hits a facebuster for a near fall. She locks in a Stretch Muffler leg submission but Shotzi escapes. She hits sliced bread for a two-count. Booker thinks this is Shotzi's night.

Shotzi recovers from the knee strike, hitting a few kicks and a facebuster. She suplexes Fallon into the middle buckle before hitting a Cannonball. Henley rolls out of the ring. She shoves Shotzi into the ring post. Henley then kicks her in the face before dropping her knee-first onto the announce table.

Fallon pie faces Shozti and she takes Fallon down to the mat. Shotzi goes for a move but it think it gets botched. She then hits a top-rope Hurricanrana before going to the opposite corner for another move. Jacy and Jazmy pull Fallon out of the ring but Shotzi hits all three of them with a crossbody. Gigi Dolin and Tatum Paxley run off Jayne and Nyx. Henley catches a kick attempt and slams her knee into the ring post.

Up next is Fallon Henley defending the North American Championship against Shotzi. Remember Shotzi, you don't HAVE to go for a suicide dive.

Ava storms into the men's locker room looking for Trick. She tells him that he's not getting a title shot. He yells that everyone else is getting a title shot (I think it was just Eddy Thorpe) and says "What did they do to earn title shot?" Ava then erases everything she said before by booking Trick in a tag match with Femi against A-Town Down Under. Great. Reward the temper tantrums.

Oba Femi enters Ava's office and she's mad that he didn't knock. She's also mad that he's trying to make a match, which is her job. She books him to defend against both Austin Theory and Grayson Waller at Vengeance Day.

Trick hits a flurry of strikes on Lee in the corner but he refuses to back off. He then shoves the ref down, leading to a disqualification. He kicks Dupont before trying to hit anyone and everyone with the chair.
Result - Wes Lee defeats Trick Williams by disqualification.

GRADE: B-.
The match was not as good as previous encounters. It was clunky at points and didn't flow as well as other Lee matches.

Lee has Williams trapped in a single-leg Boston Crab. Trick breaks it and drops Lee with some punches. Trick hits a Uranage before lining up for the Trick Shot knee. Tyriek and Tyson pull Wes out of the ring and Trick slides out. He brings Tyson into the ring when he stands on the apron. Trick then hip-tosses Lee onto Tyson on the outside before hitting a crossbody on all three.

Wes jumps off the top but Trick catches him. Wes punches his side to cause Trick to drop him. Lee hits a short crossbody for two. Williams sends Lee from the ring but gets hit with a Meteora on top of the announce table for his efforts. Vic yells at Lee to get it back to the ring even though Trick is the one who sent Lee to the outside.

Lee hits a shotgun dropkick off the bell. Trick fights back for a minute but the two trade gut strikes. He hits a dropkick to Trick's lower back.

Sarah Schreiber asks Izzi Dame what's going on with her and the D'Angelo Family. She says nothing is going on except they share a common enemy in Shawn Spears. Ridge Holland then cuts her off to call her a liar since she interfered last week. Stacks then cuts him off when he tries to insult Dame. He says, "You don't talk to a woman like that." The camera then cuts to Trick lying on the floor since he marched out to get in Oba's face. Officials help him in the ring ahead of his match with Wes Lee.

Trick and Oba toss Theory and Waller from the ring but Oba hits Trick with a powerbomb to stand tall. Vic is all worked up because Trick has a match tonight with Wes Lee. Well then, he shouldn't have come out then, should he? It's probably an excuse if Williams loses.

Oba says they are where they are now because of their big mouths, especially Waller. He is building a dynasty brick by brick. Femi then lays down a challenge to Theory and Waller for Vengeance Day in two weeks. Waller cuts Theory off before he can accept. Waller puts his name in the hat but then Ava comes out to ruin everything. Trick is watching backstage, and since he has to always be near the title, he comes out to cut her off.

Austin says that they've seen a bunch of stars like Oba who have come and gone and have to sell shirts on the indies. The crowd interrupts by chanting "Turn on Waller" before he turns around. Theory tried not to lose his stuff.

Waller says he's on the Effect tonight to see if the hype is real. He mentions how Femi was in a luxury box during WrestleMania 40 while they were winning the WWE Tag Team Titles. Theory says he competed in four 'Manias while Oba was signing his NXT deal.

Waller says some words but the crowd chants loudly for Theory. He says he picked things up very quickly like he did. He also says everyone sees him as a main-eventer on the main roster, but not A-Town Down Under. He says he accomplished more in two years in NXT than both Theory and Waller combined.

Up next is the Grayson Waller Effect, with Waller wearing a winter coat with no shirt on under it. Theory is wearing a muscle shirt in his hometown of Atlanta. Waller makes fun of how people just use the three letters because they can't spell Atlanta.

There are enough women for Giulia to defend against, although Bayley would be more than worthy.

Eddy Thorpe cuts a promo about his destiny after losing to Oba Femi. He says "Eddy Thorpe Cannot Be Broken."

Giulia hits a suplex variant and a boot to the face. She lands a dropkick off the top for two. Jade goes for a move on Giulia but she moves, causing Jade to hit Perez. Perez busts up a pin attempt and all four brawl. Bayley shoves Roxanne into the steel barricade. Giulia hits a headbutt on Cora before tagging Bayley in. She hits an elbow off the top for the win.
Result - Giulia and Bayley defeat Roxanne Perez and Cora Jade by pin.

GRADE: A-.
With the ability of the four women in the match, it wasn't a surprise that it was one of the cleanest tag team matches in WWE. Perez and Jade are a great team and Bayley has chemistry with both. It's just a shame this wasn't the main event.

Jade hits a back elbow and Roxy hits a beautiful springboard moonsault off the top for a two-count. Cora whiffs on a move but then knocks Giulia off the apron so Bayley can't tag her. As she runs back, Bayley hits her with a Bayley to Belly. Giulia and Perez tag in with the Champ getting the upper hand.

Jade and Bayley are in the ring off the commercials. Having Corey Graves on NXT commentary is refreshing since he calls Vic Joseph out on a lot of his dumb comments. Perez and Jade team up on Bayley with the ref distracted. Roxy mocks Bayley's history by doing the hug wave, but Bayley hits her with a belly-to-side suplex.

Cora works Bayley over to bring her back to her corner. The Prodigy tags in but Bayley isn't phased. She lands double knees to Perez's gut. Jade comes in but she and Perez are suplexed by Giulia and Bayley. Roxy comes in and sends both opponents to the outside. She hits a Suicide Dive while Jade hits a Cannonball off the tag.

Roxy and Cora come out together. They rush the faces before the bell. Giulia and Perez start with the champ getting a near fall right off the bat. Bayley comes in, and Roxy slaps her in the face. She rushes to her corner, and Jade comes in. Bayley then slaps Cora when she starts to talk trash. Bayley hits a short elbow for a near fall.

Bayley and Giulia come out first.
