CM Punk to fight ‘known face’ in his debut

Recently ESPN.com conducted an interview with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, who spoke about CM Punk’s debut in the Octagon. Feritta promised that Punk's debut will be against 'someone competitive' and most likely will be a PPV co-main event. he also said about the likelihood of going outside the promotion for Punk’s first opponent but the decision will be left to Joe Silva, the UFC matchmaker.

“But I’m going to defer to Joe Silva. We’ll let him bring two to three names to the table and we’ll figure it out from there. But I guarantee you it will be a competitive guy.”

Fertitta offered his opinion on the type of opponent he sees for Punk’s debut :

“I think it has to be somebody with some level of credentials. It’s not just going to be some guy off the street. It’s going to be somebody who is a professional mixed martial artist — certainly somebody who MMA media will recognize and know.”
