17-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida shared his submission grappling knowledge at the world-famous Phuket Fight Club in Thailand.

With 138 career wins in BJJ and an undefeated record of 4-0 (all finishes) in MMA, Almeida has quickly become one of the hottest heavyweights in combat sports. Inside the Circle, nobody has even lasted half a round with the American Top Team product.

When he’s not dominating the competition, he’s helping the next generation of submission superstars, as seen in a highlight reel shared by Phuket Fight Club on Instagram.

“NO GI SEMINAR with Marcus Buchecha, 13x black belt world champion. Very happy with your presence and the incredible energy you give us on and off the mat, our house is always open for you! Full house and new luggage, thank you all for coming, OSS 🙏🏽🇧🇷🤍”

‘Buchecha’ is yet to book a fight for 2023, but the Brazilian submission machine expects to have a big year after earning four straight finishes in the span of 11 months. Following his incredible 64-second submission of Kirill Grishenko at ONE Championship’s Prime Video debut in August, many pegged Almeida as the heavyweight division’s top contender.

That could prove to be the case as even ONE interim heavyweight champion Anatoly Malykhin believes he will cross paths with Almeida before the end of the year.

Anatoly Malykhin will need to upgrade his BJJ game for potential clash with ‘Buchecha’

ONE interim heavyweight titleholder Anatoly Malykhin is gearing up for a title unification bout with reigning heavyweight king Ajran Bhullar. The two were originally set to square off in the ONE Fight Night 8 main event this Friday night, but the bout was pulled and is expected to be rescheduled for the near future.

Depending on how things play out, ‘Buchecha’ could certainly find himself squaring off with the winner of the long-awaited unification contest. That’s a possibility that Malykhin is not necessarily excited about given his respect for Marcus Almeida. But business is business and the Russian juggernaut will fight whoever the promotion puts in front of him.

However, ‘Sladkiy’ recognizes that in order to properly prepare for the impeccable submission skills of Almeida, he will need to upgrade his submission grappling game if he hopes to stay on his feet and put his heavy hands to work.

“I like Buchecha, he's a good guy, maybe I’ll fight Buchecha next year,” Malykhin said in an interview with ONE Championship. “I really like him as a person so I wouldn't want to fight him honestly. But if he keeps calling me out, of course, I will accept the fight but he and De Ridder, I cannot compare them because he's so much better than Reinier in jiu-jitsu. So if I happen to fight him, I will have to update my skills in jiu-jitsu.”
