Life-long gamer Demetrious Johnson said he’s pumped for the new release of Street Fighter VI which comes out this June in the US.
Ahead of his highly-anticipated trilogy showdown against former flyweight kingpin Adriano Moraes, ‘Mighty Mouse’ couldn’t help but talk about the future release of one of his favorite childhood video games.
Speaking to ONE Championship, the reigning ONE flyweight world champion explained why Street Fighter remains one of the most popular and successful gaming franchises in Capcom history:
“I think it’s [had such longevity] because it’s part of the culture of gaming. I think Street Fighter was the first one to be out in arcades, and it’s where you go, you put a quarter up, and you go against somebody.

They’ve been able to keep it going through for so many years, slowly adding so many characters, but you’re always going to have the iconic characters: Ryu, Ken, Guile, Chun Li, E. Honda, Blanka, Bison, Sagat – the list just goes on!”
The 1987 arcade game has resonated with the gaming community for more than 30 years, a major accomplishment in the new era of technology. One of the reasons why Johnson believes the franchise has lasted this long is because of one single factor:
“I think what keeps that game alive is just the community itself, which drives the narrative of how the game comes out.”
Demetrious Johnson gives props to Capcom for producing quality over quantity every time
‘Mighty Mouse’ Demetrious Johnson recently gave added props to Capcom for constantly reinventing its franchise to the growing masses.
What sets them apart in their approach is also their emphasis on producing high-quality video games after each new edition, which Demetrious Johnson feels adds to the hype.
He added:
“They’re always adding new characters into the game. And it also helps when you have a huge fighting game community behind it. EVO and Capcom continue to produce these amazing games. I think Street Fighter V was very, very successful. And they waited [seven years] since they released Street Fighter V to Street Fighter VI. They’re always releasing new characters and new systems.”
