Demetrious Johnson wants to see more American fighters at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video.

On May 5, ‘Mighty Mouse’ will headline ONE Championship’s North American debut in Broomfield, Colorado. Although the reigning ONE flyweight world champion is focused on his trilogy fight against Adriano Moraes, he has made some recommendations for who should fight on the undercard. During an interview with SCMP MMA, Johnson had this to say about ONE Fight Night 10:

“I know Janet Todd, she’s an American as well, get her a stage fight in front of her home country. Angela Lee will be good too. Obviously, the passing of Victoria Lee, if she’s ready to come back and compete. I know she’s from Hawaii. It will be good to see athletes who are stateside to be able to compete on US soil.”

Janet Todd currently holds the ONE atomweight kickboxing and interim Muay Thai world titles. She’s scheduled to fight Allycia Hellen Rodrigues to unify the atomweight Muay Thai championship on March 25, which could make her unavailable for May 5, depending on the damage suffered.

Meanwhile, Angela Lee is mourning the tragic passing of her 18-year-old sister Victoria Lee. ‘Unstoppable’ last fought in September and doesn’t have a fight booked, but nobody is rushing her return to the Circle while she grieves.

Although both of Johnson’s suggestions might not fight on May 5, the ONE flyweight world champion name-dropped another fighter who makes sense for ONE Fight Night 10.

Demetrious Johnson suggests Sage Northcutt should compete at ONE’s U.S. debut

Sage Northcutt made his ONE debut in May 2019, losing by a vicious knockout against Cosmo Alexandre. In the aftermath, ‘Super’ had surgery to recover from facial fractures suffered against Alexandre.

During the same interview with SCMP MMA, Demetrious Johnson recommended that Northcutt make his return to ONE Fight Night 10 by saying:

“I definitely want to see Sage Northcutt back out there. Get in some more American blood. I would like to see more American talent on the card.”

Despite being inactive for an extended period, Northcutt is only 26 years old. He has no plans to retire, and ONE’s historic event in May would be a perfect atmosphere to make his return. Last year, 'Super' showed interest in rebooking a fight against Shinya Aoki that was booked for April 2021 before the American suffered a severe case of COVID.
