MMA News: Frank Mir fails drug test, lengthy suspension on the cards

End of the road for the 36-year old veteran?

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir’s last outing inside the Octagon was a forgettable experience as he was handed a walk-off knockout by Mark 'The Super Samoan' Hunt. Mir's career has been on a downward slide for quite a while now, and the latest jolt may spell the end of his career.

Mir joins the long list of fighters, who have recently failed USADA drug tests. In an out of competition test, the Brazillian Jui Jitsu black belt tested positive for oral turinabol metabolites, which could result in a two-year suspension.

In a statement issued by Mir, he claims that the drugs were taken without his consent and blames it on the Kangaroo meat he had in Australia on the day of his bout against Hunt at UFC Fight Night 85.

Mir is no stranger to dope controversies, as TRTs are often mentioned when his name comes up. Nevertheless, Mir addressed his fans on the issue, trashing all drug related charges and requesting everyone to patiently wait for everything to unfold.

Mir has been on a sluggish run as of late, and the man himself said that if the b sample churns out the same result, he would call quits on his career. The 2-time UFC Heavyweight Champion is looking to a two-year break and if that's the case, his bout with Mark Hunt would go down as his final one in the record books.
