GLORY 21: SAN DIEGO - Review and results

Artem Levin vs Simon Marcus ended in a tie

Main Card (Spike TV)

GLORY 21, which had very little hype behind it ended up being a very entertaining card with lots of highlight real knockouts. In the main event, Levin managed to retain his title while in the co-main event Vigney punched his ticket to a future HW contender tournament.

Middle Weight Title Fight: Artem Levin vs. Simon Marcus, majority draw (48-46 Marcus, 47-47, 47-47)

GLORY21 main event featured a rematch between Artem levin and Simon Marcus. Marcus had won his first fight under Muay Thai rules, and all odds were in favor that Levin will even the score, under GLORY kickboxing rules. What surprised me was Levin initiated a lot of clinching in this fight which he vowed to avoid in all of his pre-fight interviews which played a major role in his loss to Marcus in their first encounter.

He even got penalized a point in the 3rd round for doing so. The fight was close but it was evident Marcus was fighting better & smarter. Marcus seemed to land more, pushing Levin back while connecting with the cleaner shots from the outside, along with some knees in the clinch. He controlled the pace, pushing forward and initiating the action throughout while Levin was content to tie things up in a clinch.

When the scorecards were read the fight ended as a majority draw. Two judges scored the bout 47-47, while one other had it for Marcus 48-46. Levin retained his GLORY middleweight title due to the fight ended in a draw.

Raymond daniels def. Justin Baesman, KO R1 0:51

Raymond daniels vs. Justin Baesman from the onset looked like a squash match for Daniels & he proved it right. The always-entertaining Daniels tried all kinds of wild spinning kicks, in less than 60 second which clearly overwhelmed Bellator vet. Jason Baesman eventually Daniels caught him with a spinning back kick to the liver which dropped Baesman getting a finish by knockout in just 51 seconds.

Heavy Weight (HW) Tournament:

Heavy Weight Final: Xavier Vigney def. Chi lewis parry, KO R2 1:50

In the co-main event & heavyweight tournament final, Xavier Vigney punched his ticket to the heavyweight contender tournament with two KO wins. Parry was the favorite to win the tournament and it looked so as Parry landed the harder punches in the first round, but seemed to be out of gas soon and Vigney started to take over late in the round with better cardio and more accurate striking than Parry.

In the second round, Parry was just swinging for the fences Vigney was landing shots at will. Xavier Vigney out striked Parry and finished him in the corner with a flurry of punches at 1:50 of the second round.
