Mexico has had a long tradition of producing elite combat sports talent which has seemingly transitioned into the UFC. The biggest MMA promotion in the world has three champions from the country of Mexico at the moment, two of whom are undisputed champions, with one being an interim champion.

Hailing from Tijuana, Mexico, Brandon Moreno became a two-time bantamweight champion at UFC 283 earlier this year after beating Deiveson Figueiredo. Interestingly, this was the fourth fight between the pair, and the 29-year-old came out on top following a doctor's stoppage after the third round of the fight.

Moreno is the first-ever Mexican-born UFC champion.

Yair Rodriguez currently holds the interim featherweight championship. Rodriguez defeated Josh Emmett earlier this year via submission to become the second Mexican champion in the company at the time.

The third Mexican champion was added to the company last night at UFC 285. Alexa Grasso shook the world by beating the legendary Valentina Shevchenko to become the new women's flyweight champion.

As mentioned earlier, Alexa Grasso upset the odds to become the flyweight champion by beating Valentina Shevchenko.

Going into the fight, Valentina Shevchenko was expected to further extend her dominant run in the flyweight division with yet another successful title defense. However, the Mexican fighter had other plans. Grasso started off the fight strongly with an impressive first round.

However, 'Bullet' was quick to make amends and started to find her feet as the fight proceeded. As the fight went on, Valentina Shevchenko became more and more dominating before Alexa Grasso turned the tables in round four.

Towards the end of the fourth round, Valentina Shevchenko attempted a spinning back kick which ended up costing her the fight. The opening allowed Alexa Grasso to take her back and lock in a rear-naked choke that forced a tap from Shevchenko at 04:34 of round four.

By doing so, Alexa Grasso became the third current champion in the company to hail from Mexico. Furthermore, she also became the first-ever female undisputed champion of the country, etching her name in the history books forever.
