Jonathan Haggerty has expressed his bravery ahead of ONE Fight Night 9.

On April 21, Haggerty will make his eighth appearance in ONE Championship. The former flyweight Muay Thai world champion has decided to move up to bantamweight and immediately jump into deep waters. ‘The General’ will take on bantamweight Muay Thai king Nong-O Hama in the ONE Fight Night 9 main event.

With less than a month to go before his championship fight, Haggerty has begun counting down the days with an Instagram post that said:

“I fear no man in that ring. The count down is on @onechampionship 🔥Who’s excited?”

Since making his ONE debut in February 2019, Nong-O has defeated all ten opponents put in his way, including Saemapetch Fairtex, Liam Harrison, and Alaverdi Ramazanov. Although the Thai superstar has been nearly unbeatable, Haggerty could be one of his toughest challenges.

Jonathan Haggerty makes sure he doesn’t get emotional in fights

Jonathan Haggerty is known for thrilling performances where he refuses to quit. A combination of athletic skills and a strong mindset led ‘The General’ to become the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion.

During an interview with Heatrick Muay Thai Performance, Haggerty discussed a significant reason for his success in the circle. He had this to say:

"Just the main thing and the only thing is don’t get emotional. Don’t get caught in your emotions. You know, don’t get angry. Don’t let the mind games kick in. That’s it, man. Do your thing."

Haggerty made his ONE debut in January 2019, defeating Joseph Lasiri by unanimous decision. In his second appearance, the English-born fighter became a superstar with a unanimous decision win against Sam-A Gaiyanghadao to become the flyweight Muay Thai world champion.

Unfortunately for Haggerty, he couldn't defend his throne, losing back-to-back fights against Rodtang Jitmuangnon. He bounced back from those losses by taking out Taiki Naito in December 2020. ‘The General’ wouldn’t return for over a year, with his next fight being a win against Mongkolpetch Petchyindee.

Haggerty last fought in November 2022, defeating Vladimir Kuzmin at ONE on Prime Video 4. The 26-year-old now has a massive opportunity to end Nong-O Hama’s run and win his second world championship.

ONE Fight Night 9 can be seen live and for free by North American Prime Video subscribers.
