In the main event of International Charity Fight Night on Sept. 7, Lani Daniels will attempt to defend her IBF female light heavyweight title for the first time since winning it in December 2023. In doing so, she will face top-ranked IBF contender Bolatito Oluwole.Daniels, 10-2-2, dropped down in weight to beat Desley Robinson for the vacant IBF 175-pound title. Until that point, she held the IBF women's heavyweight title, a belt she defended once after winning it in May 2023. However, the 9-0 Oluwole will be in her first world championship opportunity, having never fought outside of Nigeria before in her professional career. Daniels has also never left her native New Zealand but with the fight occurring in her home country, it will be Oluwole who's forced to travel. While women's boxing fight purses are not as publicly known as their male counterparts, New Zealand-based media company Stuff reported that Daniels made just $4,000 for her first world title fight against Geovana Peres in 2019.None of Daniels' fights since have included a reported payout and the same can be said for any fight in Oluwole's career with them all being in Nigeria. The pay gap between genders has been notoriously wide in boxing, but as the defending world champion, Daniels will undoubtedly be the higher-paid fighter on fight night.Lani Daniels' last fightAlthough not a simultaneous two-division champion, Lani Daniels became the first New Zealand-born female fighter to reign over two weight classes when she beat Desley Robinson in her last fight. The fight marked her second attempt at becoming the 175-pound world champion after failing to do so against Geovana Peres four years before. At the end of the back-and-forth bout, Daniels' victory made her the No. 1-ranked female fighter by ESPN at 175 pounds or more. However, she has since been surpassed by Claressa Shields after the 'GWOAT' knocked out Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in July. With few women having much star power in the female weight classes, fans pushed for Shields and Daniels to unify their titles in their next bouts. The fight could be next for both if Lani Daniels gets past Bolatito Oluwole, especially with the 36-year-old signing with a new promotion ahead of her first title defense.
