MMA News: Josh Barnett doubts Brock Lesnar's readiness for UFC 200

Josh Barnett has also worked in the pro-wrestling industry extensively

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett has cast his doubts over Brock Lesnar’s preparation for his UFC 200 return against Mark Hunt.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani during the latter’s popular podcast, the MMA Hour, Barnett relays his thoughts over how he feels about Brock Lesnar returning, reports MMAfighting.com

"Of course he has a chance. He’s a tank. He’s got an incredible wrestling background. He’s a great physical specimen. He’s no dummy. Brock is a smart guy, and I still think he is a massive wealth of untapped potential.

It’s just that – it has not been tapped. It has not been approached the right way. I would be surprised if his prep leading up to this is really what myself, hell, I’m at the gym right now training my fighters that all have matches coming up.

And as a trainer, as someone that’s trained people for world championship matches, I just don’t think that the right approach is being taken with him."

One would say that Barnett has a valid point in his criticism of Lesnar, given that the Beast hasn’t had the need to ever train MMA these past few years. And making a comeback against a knockout machine like Mark Hunt isn’t exactly a ‘welcome back’ fight either.

Josh Barnett had, of course, unsuccessfully lobbied to face Brock in his comeback fight, when it was announced that he would be returning for UFC 200.
