Arguably the greatest UFC welterweight of all time, George St-Pierre has been away from the cage for over two years now.
After his last bout with Johnny Hendricks, he reluctantly admitted being affected by some personal issues that he had been battling for a while and thus needs to take time off of the sport.
Only last week, according to Bjpenn.com, GSP told a Canadian media outlet that he would be making a huge announcement next week.
Well, in a world with free-flowing internet and constant social networking, not all secrets stay in the locker.
Rumours have surfaced online that the announcement could be a possible blockbuster match that can be easily referred as ‘UFC Fight of the Century’- GEORGE ST-PIERRE vs ANDERSON SILVA!
The rumour appeared more credible after GSP’s training partner Patrick Cote tweeted regarding the possible match between the two legends of the sports.
The MMA world has been desperate to get the two to fight each other but neither of them seemed to be certain about it.
When asked about the tantalising match-up, St-Pierre had previously stated that he was concentrating on being the most dominant welterweight champion by holding to his title as long as he could, while Silva never commented much on it.
The welterweight kingpin has been absent since he controversially beat Hendricks and fans didn’t expect much after the beatdown he suffered in that bout.
On the other hand, the truth is Silva hasn't enjoyed much success in the recent past either.
After Spider’s loss to Chris Weidman back in 2013, his glittering career lost its shine. Since his title loss, most of his fights have ended in a strange manner that didn’t favour Silva in any way.
A match between the two legends will certainly turn out to be one of the biggest fights in the combat sports history and generate the highest Pay-per-view numbers.
