Fans criticized the Gaston Bolanos vs. Cortavious Romious scorecards at the UFC Vegas 100 event on Nov. 9. The welterweight fighters produced an entertaining three-round contest on the main card and Bolanos emerged victorious. While most fans seemed to agree with the outcome, they strongly condemned the scorecards.

In the fight, Bolanos appeared to be leading in Round 1 until a clean strike from Romious clipped him in the closing moments. Romious took Bolanos down in Round 2 and clocked in control time. However, Bolanos successfully reversed the momentum and connected with a few clean elbows to close the round.

After a closely contested Round 3, where neither man appeared to have a decisive edge in terms of damage and number of strikes landed, Bolanos was declared the winner by unanimous decision (30-27 X 2, 30-26).

While Bolanos won all three rounds on the scorecards, controversial judge and boxing referee Tony Weeks scored the second round a 10-8 in his favor. Unfortunately for Weeks, Round 2 appeared to be Romious' best round in the fight.

For the uninitiated, a round is scored as a 10-8 when the winning fighter dominates or comes dangerously close to finishing his opponent. Fans felt that there was no case for a 10-8 in the second round and criticized the scorecard in the comments section.

Weeks is widely regarded as one of the most decorated boxing referees and has officiated nearly 900 boxing matches in his career. However, his officiating has been criticized in recent years due to controversial judging in UFC fights and questionable decision-making while refereeing in boxing matches.

Most notably, Weeks was called out for declaring Rolando Romero the winner by TKO against Ismael Borosso. The stoppage came when Borosso appeared to be landing the more impactful strikes during an exchange. While Weeks justified his call by citing Borroso's age (40 years) in the fight, it is regarded as one of the worst referee decisions in boxing history.
