Champion combat sports athlete Alistair Overeem was one of the high-profile spectators at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

‘The Demolition Man’ was spotted at Circleside on ONE Fight Night 6, the promotion’s first live event for 2023, where new world kickboxing champions in Chingiz Allazov (featherweight) and Superlek Kiatmoo9 (flyweight) were crowned.

The presence of Overeem at ONE Fight Night 6 further added to speculation that he could soon see action in ONE. The Dutch fighter is currently competing in kickboxing in Glory.

It has been reported that Overeem has reached out to officials of ONE, expressing interest in participating in the recently announced US$1-million Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix that the promotion will be staging this year.

ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the ambitious tournament during a press conference for ONE Fight Night 6 last week.

The tournament will gather 16 of the best strikers in the world regardless of their weight division. It is only open to ONE fighters, but Sityodtong said they are constantly signing athletes, some of whom they have yet to announce.

Apart from Glory, Overeem competed in kickboxing with Dream and K-1, and mixed martial arts with Strikeforce and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has yet to compete professionally in Muay Thai professionally.


Chatri Sityodtong announces Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix at ONE Fight Night 6 presscon

The year 2023 promises to be a banner year for ONE Championship as the promotion is set to stage huge events, including the ambitious US$1-million Openweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix.

ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong made the announcement during the press conference for ONE Fight Night 6 last week in Bangkok.

The tournament will gather 16 of the best strikers in the world regardless of their weight division, with the winner going home with a million-dollar top prize.

Sityodtong expressed his excitement over the grand tournament, believing that it will take Muay Thai’s stature to a whole new level.

The executive said at the press conference:

“I promise you this will blow up the sport all over the world, with our global broadcast, people will be tuning in from all over the world. The very best, the very, very best, irrespective of weight class. Muay Thai world champions will be competing, 16 of the world’s best.”

The tournament could possibly feature top ONE strikers like Chingiz Allazov, Superbon Singha Mawynn, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao and Regian Eersel.

The event has also piqued the interest of champion kickboxer and MMA fighter Alistair Overeem, who is reported to have reached out to ONE officials over the possibility of competing in it.

Overeem, currently fighting in Glory, was present at Circleside at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13 at the Impact Arena.
