Reigning ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon was challenged by then-ONE strawweight Muay Thai world champion Joseph Lasiri in a champion-versus-champion clash in November 2017 during the co-main event of ONE on Prime Video 4, which took place inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
ONE Championship recently posted the highlights and story behind the animosity between the two in a YouTube video:
"Before Rodtang defends his ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title against Jacob Smith in the co-main event of ONE 169 on November 8, relive all the drama from 'The Iron Man's' heated encounter with former ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Joseph Lasiri in November 2022!"
See the video below:
In the video, 'The Hurricane' came into the championship showdown as a flamboyant challenger, but 'Iron Man' was not having any of it and took the rivalry personally.
This resulted in a dominant and lopsided victory for Rodtang, as he secured the unanimous decision nod from the judges to successfully defend his 26-pound golden belt.
Apart from the Thai striking superstar, fans also felt a bit of disappointment and anger toward the Italian-Moroccan star due to his attitude toward Rodtang heading into the match, but failing to live up to all the smack talk.
Users @X-Fauve, @bakerm109, @jsav5845, @maineeventmark5749, and @boneguard1945 used the comment section of the post to send their dismay to Lasiri by commenting:
"I do love it when one gets to humble a boaster. Like Rodtang said - All talk and no game."
"He got taught a lesson that night for sure.. Hopefully one he'll learn .. Nice Job 'Ironman' ... Class over..."
"Love Rodtang, the guy is a beast 👹"
"Rodtang is not human"
"Rodtang switches to southpaw on purpose when he doesn't see an opponent as a threat."
Rodtang promises to do his best to get his hand raised in championship rematch against Jacob Smith
On Nov. 8, the Jitmuangnon Gym representative will welcome the challenge of British star Jacob Smith in their world title rematch, which co-headlines ONE 169 inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Before the fourth round of their new rivalry begins, Rodtang talked to Sportskeeda MMA in a recent interview and vowed to do everything in his power to retain his crown, as he stated:
"His toughness and strength. It isn't easy to take him down. It's difficult to say. As always, it all depends on what happens in the ring. I'll have either go according to my plan, or improvise it. However, for sure I'll do my best to get a victory."
