ONE Championship icon Aung La N Sang is excited about the chance to return to the circle this Friday night.

The former two-division world champion will head to Impact Arena in Bangkok to help the promotion kick off its 2023 schedule with ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video.

Airing exclusively on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service in North America, ‘The Burmese Python’ will look for a second-straight win against returning Brazilian veteran Gilberto Galvao.

Originally, Aung La was scheduled to square off with Fan Rong at the event, but a last-minute change has delivered the Myanmar superstar a drastically different opponent.

In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Aung La recognized that Galvao will present a different challenge, but is nonetheless excited to compete in front of a raucous crowd in Thailand:

“Yeah it’s a catchweight and I know stylistically they’re different. Fan Rong and Gilberto Galvao, stylistically very different, but it’s okay. We prepare for everybody and I’m just happy that we have a bout.”

Aung La N Sang got back into the win column in November with an incredible first-round knockout of Japanese legend Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami at ONE 163. Eager to get back into the world title picture, ‘The Burmese Python’ will look to repeat his performance against Galvao.

Aung La N Sang will go into ONE Fight Night 6 with a heavy heart

When Aung La N Sang steps into the circle on Friday night, he will do so with a heavy heart following the news that 18-year-old prodigy Victoria Lee has passed away.

The entire MMA community is still reeling from the sudden loss of one of the industry's brightest prospects. During his conversation with SCMP MMA, ‘The Burmese Python’ shared his thoughts on the tragic loss, saying:

"Yeah, I’m heartbroken for Ken [Lee's father]. As a man with a two-year-old daughter, I know the connection you have with your daughter. A father and a daughter is like no love that you can have, and it hurts me, it hurts me just thinking about it, you know?"

Aung La continued, saying:

"I met Victoria a year ago and she was so sweet, like the whole family is sweet, you know? But this one is like, it’s a hard one to take. I couldn’t believe it. When I read the post, I had to re-read and re-read and re-read it again, and I just feel for the whole family. Condolences to the Lee family. I can’t even put it to words."
