‘The Situ-Asian’ Martin Nguyen will be back in action this February when ONE Championship presents ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video.

Martin Nguyen is hoping to kick off his 2023 in the right direction, but it will not be an easy task for the former two-division world champion. He faces well-rounded Russian contender Shamil ‘The Cobra’ Gasanov. In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Nguyen’s close friend and training partner Aung La N Sang shared his thoughts on the bout, saying:

“Every match he’s taken, nobody knows about these guys but they’re good, man. They’re really good. They’re young and hungry lions. And I still believe Martin’s got what it takes. But this fight is a tough one. Shamil is no joke, you know. He’s somebody to look out for, and it’s gonna be a tough one for him. That’s the life we chose, so let’s go.”

Shamil Gasanov immediately made waves inside the Circle when he delivered a spectacular first-round submission against Kim Jae Woong at ONE on Prime Video 3 in October. The victory immediately thrust Gasanov into the No. 5 spot in the featherweight rankings and extended his undefeated record to 13-0

Martin Nguyen is putting in work to make another run at ONE Championship glory

Martin Nguyen is a ONE Championship legend, there is no denying that, but ‘The Situ-Asian’ has certainly seen better days inside the Circle. Though he’s endured a rough patch, Nguyen and his friend Aung La N Sang remain confident that the former ONE featherweight and lightweight world champion can turn things around and pick up a big win at ONE Fight Night 7.

Continuing his conversation with SCMP MMA, Aung La revealed that he will be in the building for Nguyen’s next walk to the Circle and expects to see a significantly improved ‘Situ-Asian’ next month.

"Yeah, I’ll be here in February for Martin’s fight as well and be in his corner. I know Martin’s working his butt off. He’s in that same boat as I was in a while, you know, coming off losses. And he’s working super hard, you guys are gonna be in for a treat. He’s working very hard."
