Things are not going well for B.J. Penn, as a family court recently extended the protective order against the former two-division champion filed by his mother, Lorraine Shin. Penn was instructed to leave his home and keep a 100-yard distance from Shin.

Earlier this year, Penn accused the Hawaiian government of killing Shin and his brother. He claimed that a government agent named Lorraine Abile has taken his mother's identity in an attempt to steal their fortune, causing many in the MMA world to worry about his mental health.

Penn was arrested last month due to his erratic behavior, which included the alleged abuse of a household member. As a result, Shin filed a restraining order against the MMA legend, which was recently extended until Nov. 23 by a Hilo family court judge.

Combat sports news outlet MMA Fighting posted Shin's statement to the police while filing for the restraining order against Penn. Her statement read:

''I believe my son [B.J. Penn] is suffering from Capgras delusional syndrome (a psychiatric disorder in which a person holds a delusion that a friend, spouse, parent, other close family member has been replaced by an identical imposter). He believes I’m an imposter who has killed his family to gain control of the family assets. In the best interest for my safety, I ask the court for a six month [temporary restraining order] and have my son ordered to get medical treatment or other source of therapy.” [H/t: MMA Fighting]

Robbie Lawler offers his thoughts on B.J. Penn's ongoing mental health problems

Robbie Lawler expressed his support for B.J. Penn, as the former was one of many people who were concerned about Penn's current mental state.

In an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show earlier this year, Lawler said that every combat athlete must look after themselves.

"BJ is awesome, but what are you doing outside of fighting and outside of your training camps? Who are you? Like, how are you taking care of yourself? And I think those things are very important in life and in health... You need to be conscious of taking care of yourself year-round, not just six weeks before camp [or] eight weeks before camp. It's a life thing. You only have one body."
