Derrick Lewis will not be fighting Johnata Diniz at UFC Edmonton in Rogers Place in Alberta, Canada. The heavyweight matchup has been scrapped after 'The Black Beast' pulled out due to a medical issue.
Lewis was notably absent from the UFC Edmonton ceremonial weigh-in event earlier this week, which was widely considered unusual for a fighter. While fans were initially assured that he would be competing on the card despite skipping the ceremonial weigh-ins, the UFC later announced that he was out of the event due to a medical issue that wasn't related to weight-cutting.
Veteran MMA journalist Aaron Bronsteter confirmed the news via an X post and wrote:
"BREAKING: Derrick Lewis vs. Jhonata Diniz has been canceled from tomorrow night's #UFCEdmonton card, per the promotion. Lewis had a non-weight cutting-related medical issue."
