Submission grappling star Danielle Kelly has a rather unique diet that most wouldn’t expect from an elite Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) grappler.

In an attempt to gain weight and build muscle to compete with some of the bigger BJJ and sambo practitioners in the world, Kelly is feasting on a steady diet of Nutella and Chick-Fil-A.

Speaking with MMA Superfan ahead of her highly-anticipated return to the circle at ONE on Prime Video 4, Kelly shared details of her college-like diet, saying:

"I really like Nutella, I love a lot of Nutella. They are like my guilty pleasure. I don't know, I'll snack on Chick-Fil-A usually, sometimes after my classes. Because there's a Chick-Fil-A spot right near the gym at night. So I just drive five minutes out there, and I just get Chick-Fil-A."

Kelly continued, saying:

"Most of the time, when I'm eating like that, I'm just trying to gain weight. Because the girls are really strong, and most of the time they're 115 and they're cutting to 115. So, they're bigger than me already. So yeah, I don't really feel guilty but you know, I'm just trying to be as strong as they are because they're all really strong. Especially Mei Yamaguchi."

On November 19, Danielle Kelly will take on Russian sambo world champion Mariia Molchanova, who will be making her ONE Championship debut.

Danielle Kelly may take a page out of Mikey Musumeci’s dieting book

In an attempt to put on some extra weight, Danielle Kelly may opt to take a page out of Mikey Musumeci’s dieting book. The inaugural ONE submission grappling world champion is famous for eating a strict diet of pizza and pasta, which earned him the ‘Darth Rigatoni’ moniker.

Speaking to The MMA Super Fan, Kelly said:

"I'm a small person. I walk around 115. I'm a natural one-fifteener so I don't really gain weight, which is kind of sad. So right now lately, I've been trying to gain some muscle so I've been trying to eat a lot, so I might just do the Mikey [Musumeci] diet."

Sharing his unique dieting methods with Joe Rogan, Musumeci said that eating the food he loved gave him better results on the scale and on the mat.

"I started just eating the foods I love. I’m Italian so I grew up just eating pizza and pasta… for dessert, I’ll eat a pint of Acai and my weight would be lighter doing this diet than eating like no carbs and all these things."
