Who woud've guessed that Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) star Danielle Kelly is a serious Game of Thrones (GOT) nerd?

If you're familiar with George R.R. Martin's books, you'll most likely agree that it's eight-season TV adaptation is by far one of the best HBO series of all time. Too bad Danielle Kelly and many Game of Thrones fans like her, can’t say the same thing after watching the new prequel called, 'House of the Dragon' which aired on HBO this past August.

Speaking to ONE Championship, the 26-year-old standout gave her honest opinion about the fantasy drama with the following words:

“If you're a real Game of Thrones fan, you would understand what I'm talking about. Like, it's just so boring. I only watch it because it helps me sleep at night.”

Compared to the original hit series, which received critical praise for its complex storyline, characters, and acting, the prequel left something to be desired, at least for Danielle Kelly.

According to the BJJ star, omitting the book’s dark themes of war and violence to please a sensitive audience ruined the entire production quality of the show:

“So there's a guy in Game of Thrones, you're watching one of the episodes, it's really intense. With this show [HotD], being very, like, not wanting to offend anyone, they're not really showing many killings. But the book is like, that's what happened. So now that it's 2022, you're not going to show certain things because you don't want to hurt people's feelings? Like it's going from the book. You can't get offended by it.”

Danielle Kelly gives a poor rating to 'House of The Dragon'

Danielle Kelly may not be alone in thinking that 'House of the Dragon' was a massive letdown.

As a huge fan of the book, she made a good point earlier about staying true to what’s written on the page. Most of the elements that made GoT so successful in the past were indeed absent throughout the new series.

Although the show was positively received by critics, showcasing a high rating of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, Kelly doesn’t understand why it’s getting so much praise:

“Apparently, some people say it's supposed to be exciting, but honestly, it's not exciting at all. It's not. There was like one episode that was probably exciting. This is action. I don't even know, apparently, there's like some war going on. I'm so tuned out of the show, what's going on because it’s just so slow, and there's no action at all going on.”

When Danielle Kelly was asked to provide her own star rating for the show, she curtly replied:

“4.5/10.”
