Even Demetrious Johnson knew that he was behind the scorecards against Adriano Moraes during their rematch at ONE on Prime Video 1 this past August.

Displaying a true heart of a champion, ‘Mighty Mouse’ dug deep and was able to find his groove in round four, where he landed an emphatic flying knee to dethrone ‘Mikinho’ and claim the ONE flyweight world championship.

In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, ‘DJ’ recounted the events that led to that epic finish. According to the 36-year-old, losing was never an option for him, especially after the Brazilian bested him in their first encounter:

“I threw everything I had it that knee, and I knew. In this fight, when I shot and he defends the takedown because he’s so fucking long and he starts kneeing me in the head. When he switches over the D’Arce, I’m like I’m not f***ing done yet. I got up and just kept on fighting. Even if he got back up [from the knee] and he does the same thing, I’m like perfect. I still got energy to give you.”

A veteran of 36 professional matches, Demetrious Johnson admitted that Moraes was arguably one of the toughest opponents he ever faced. Aside from the former world champion’s elite striking and grappling skills, his size and length advantage posed a lot of problems for Johnson.

Early on in the bout, Moraes was once again controlling the distance beautifully and imposed his will on the ground by punishing ‘Mighty Mouse’ with some ground and pound. He even tagged ‘DJ’ a couple of times on the feet and was definitely winning the fight up until that point.

As we all know by now, Demetrious Johnson put on the performance of his life in that fourth round and finished the fight with a poetic flying knee for the record books.

Demetrious Johnson shares hilarious story about messing with fans who don’t know him

Apart from talking about his previous fights and his future plans now that his career winds down, Demetrious Johnson also unleashed his playful side during his interview with Joe Rogan.

While Demetrious Johnson is considered the ‘GOAT’ by most MMA fans, some casuals still don’t have the faintest clue of what he does for a living.

After all, the diminutive Johnson, who has a cheerful yet unassuming nature, does not exactly look like a prototypical tough guy who makes a living out of fighting. Rogan could not contain his laughter after Johnson revealed how he deals with some fans who ask the reason behind his fame:

“Some people are like, ‘Hey man, can I get a picture’. So I say sure, why not? They know who I am. But then, my favorite is when people are like they’re all looking at this small 5’3 black guy in the middle of nowhere with two kids. They’re like, ‘Who the f*** is this guy? Are you famous? What do you do?’”

He added:

“So I have a whole list of what I do. One of them is like I’m the CEO of a pharmaceutical company... Male enhancement pills. Just go on these lies because it’s f***ing fun, that’s why I do it.”
