American BJJ phenom Cole Abate finally displayed his elite grappling skills in ONE Championship when he scored an impressive submission win over former ONE lightweight MMA world champion Shinya Aoki in their lightweight submission grappling match at ONE Fight Night 26 last Dec. 6.

Abate cranked a tight heel hook submission in under three minutes to force a tap out of the Japanese legend. Following this victory, he penned a lengthy Instagram post with pictures of the fight and a snippet of his captions read:

"successful debut at @onechampionship winning my match by heel hook and receiving the $50K bonus. 🙏🏼🏆💸 ... so grateful to Mr. @yodchatri and @tomdeblass for the opportunity to perform on the ONE stage. thank you to everyone for the continued love and support. 🙌🏼🤍"

Cole Abate aims to inspire the next generation

Following his $50,000 performance, the Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy representative addressed the media in the post-event conference, where one of his talking points was to lay the foundations for the next generation.

'Ice' aims to be the inspiration and pave the way for them, as he said:

"I was one of the first professional athletes coming up as a kid and over the years there's been much that I've gone through and I feel like now that's all just a result of that. So when they watch me, hopefully, they can see that story, feel inspired by it, and be able to relate to it."
