Former MMA fighter Slotty Avila has been arrested in the Philippines after being found in possession of roughly half a kilogram of 'shabu'. The raid was conducted by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Cebu City on December 3.

Shabu is the name for methamphetamine across many South and Southeast Asian countries. It is alleged that Avila was arrested after the authorities were tipped off about his activity.

A search warrant was presented to Avila in the early hours of Saturday morning, where he was found in possession of various courier packages containing shabu. According to PDEA director Levi Ortiz, the former mixed martial artist would use the courier packaging to hide the illegal contraband.

The news was reported by @cebudailynews on Twitter.

According to Ortiz, they had surveilled Avila for close to a month before requesting a search warrant. The PDEA will look to target Avila's suppliers next.

An article posted by @manilabulletin on Twitter last week appeared to have hinted at what is to come for various drug dealers in Cebu. The report stated that the PDEA has identified 31 high-value targets that they have begun to hunt down.

Who is Slotty Avila, the former MMA fighter who was arrested for possession of meth?

Slotty Avila is a Filipino-born former MMA fighter who was recently arrested for possession of half a kilogram of methamphetamine. The arrest was the result of a month-long sting operation conducted by the PDEA.

According to reports, Avila was an ex-mixed martial arts fighter who formed part of a Filipino-based MMA team called Yawyan Ardigma Cebu Top Team. The team was created by Benigno R. Caniga, who founded the YawYan ArDigma Martial Arts Federation.

Whilst there are no official records of Slotty Avila competing in mixed martial arts, an article released in 2013 tells the story of a teammate of Avila's taking on an opponent who had beaten Slotty Avila, as a way to defend his honor. The event took place at Ground and Pound 7 - Resolution.
