Jonathan Haggerty is willing to give credit where credit is due.
Following a two-year-long layoff that saw him go through reconstructive knee surgery and a harrowing recovery process, UK sensation Liam Harrison returned to the Circle at ONE 168: Denver for a showdown with Thai star Seksan Or Kwanmuang.
While Harrison's comeback was a victory in itself, the 'Hitman' came up short against Seksan, suffering a brutal second-round knockout in The Mile High City.
Immediately following the fight, Harrison announced his retirement from the sport, ending a career that spanned more than two decades.
During an appearance on the Winners Talking podcast, countryman and reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing king Haggerty graciously dubbed Harrison the GOAT of UK combat sports:
"Yeah. He’s the GOAT. He’s retired now but I think he’s having one more fight now. I think he wants one more fight and it’s going to be in the UK on his own show."
Liam Harrison ready for one more go on martial arts' biggest global stage
Originally, Liam Harrison had been plotting one more fight under his Hitman Fight League banner in the United Kingdom. However, the 'Hitman' recently revealed that his last stand will instead take place on martial arts' biggest global stage — ONE Championship:
"Well I was supposed to retire from ONE Championship, but they recently made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I'm gonna have one more with them 👊".
Perhaps we could see that long-awaited clash between Harrison and Haggerty after all.
Thus far, neither ONE Championship nor the 'Hitman' have announced any details regarding when he will return to the Circle or who it will be against. Regardless combat sports fans around the world will no doubt tune in to watch one of the greatest strikers of all time leave it all in the cage one last time.
