“I’m a true fighter” - Jacob Smith admits his penchant for wild exchanges sometimes leads to his downfall

Jacob Smith believes him being a "true fighter" can be a "downfall sometimes."

In May 2022, Smith made his ONE Championship debut with a combined Muay Thai and kickboxing record of 15-5-1. Since then, the flyweight contender has established a promotional Muay Thai record of 1-2, including an action-packed unanimous decision loss against Rodtang JItmuangnon.

Later this week, November 8, Smith has an opportunity to avenge his defeat against Rodtang in the ONE 169 co-main event. Before the upcoming rematch, Smith did an interview with the South China Morning Post and had this to say about his fighting style:

"I rock always, and I’m not very good at anything else. I’m good at fighting. I’m really good at fighting. When I say fighting, that’s what I am. I’m a true fighter. And that could be a downfall sometimes. It probably was [the case] in the first fight [with Rodtang]."

Unfortunately, Rodtang missed weight for ONE 169, forcing him to vacate his flyweight Muay Thai world title. Heading into Friday's event, Jacob Smith accepted a catchweight bout against 'The Iron Man where the British challenger is eligible to claim the vacant world title if he pulls off an upset win.

Rodtang vs. Jacob Smith could become Muay Thai Fight of the Year contender

The first fight between Jacob Smith and Rodtang featured the latter utilizing his reckless aggression and technical precision to dominate. Since then, Smith has gained more experience and improved, making the rematch at ONE 169 more intriguing.

Smith's fighting style is aggressive, as he refuses to give up. Meanwhile, Rodtang has become a worldwide fan favorite for his entertaining approach to fight, potentially creating an intense battle later this week.

Both fighters will be extra motivated to emerge victorious after suffering defeats in their last respective Muay Thai fights. Rodtang endured a unanimous decision loss in an instant classic against Superlek Kiatmoo9, while Smith is coming off a similar result against Denis Puric.

ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug will air live in US Primetime free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in North America. The November 8 event goes down inside the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
