Joe Rogan recently discussed Jack Dorsey's original plan for Twitter (now X) during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE). Rogan spoke about how Dorsey wanted to operate two separate versions for users – a moderated, censored version and a fully free-speech-friendly version. Rogan's guest on the show, businessman Marc Andreessen, later discussed how the work environment at the social media company was toxic and unstable before Elon Musk's takeover.

Rogan outlined Dorsey's vision for the popular social media platform and said:

"I think he had very good intentions, but he was part of a very large corporation. He had an idea for a Wild West Twitter. He wanted to have two versions of Twitter. He wanted Twitter that was pre-Elon, there was moderation and you can't dead-name someone and all that jazz. Then, he wanted to have an additional Twitter, essentially what X is now. He just didn't have the ability to push that through."

Andreessen then outlined how Twitter's work culture went against Dorsey and painted a bleak picture of how things worked there before Musk's buyout:

"So the experience that people like Jack have had running these companies over the last decade has been, and I don't mean to let them off their decisions, but the lived experiences of what their lives were like is just daily pounding. Every single day, just meteor strikes coming down from the sky, exploding around you. Getting attacked from every conceivable direction. Being called incredibly horrible things."

Joe Rogan lauds Elon Musk for "changing the course of history" with Twitter purchase

Joe Rogan recently had Elon Musk on the JRE show, where the two discussed various topics, including media censorship and bias. During their conversation, the UFC commentator explained why he thought Musk changed history by buying Twitter and changing the way social media worked.

Lauding Musk for not allowing censorship, data manipulation, and narrative control to ruin the social media space, Rogan said:

"I'm not exaggerating when I say I think you've changed the course of history. I really do. I think you made a fork in the road, we were heading down a path of censorship and control of narratives... What they were doing with social media by suppressing information, it was a combined government effort."

Musk responded:

"The reason I bought it [X] was because I was one of the most active users before the acquisition...I was very attuned that if they changed the system, I could tell immediately, and when they de-platformed the sitting president [Donald Trump at the time], that was just insane."
