Submission grappling ace Danielle Kelly was an interested observer at the recently held ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video and liked the action she saw.

Among the fights that stood out for her was that between Americans Gary “The Lion Killer” Tonon and Johnny “Johnny Boy” Nunez in a featherweight mixed martial arts bout. Tonon won by submission (kimura) in the opening round.

Speaking to The MMA Superfan, Danielle Kelly shared that she was impressed with how Tonon executed the submission on Nunez:

“He submitted the guy with a kimura, like a really good setup from it. I like submissions, so it’s really cool to see an MMA guy get a submission.”

Like Tonon, Danielle Kelly has hopes of successfully making inroads in MMA from submission grappling down the line.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Kelly made her ONE Championship debut in March last year and has chalked up a win and a draw in submission grappling since.

She will make her circle return at ONE Fight Night 7 on February 24 in Bangkok, Thailand, in a submission grappling catchweight showdown with Japanese Ayaka Miura.

The event will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for all Amazon subscribers across North America.

“Looking to keep proving myself” - Danielle Kelly excited for 2023 following a career year

Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Danielle Kelly is looking to continue improving and building on her standing in ONE Championship in 2023.

Coming off a banner year where she got to do a lot for jiu-jitsu while opening a new chapter in her professional career, the American submission grappler said she is determined to achieve more and excited over what the new year will bring.

In a year-end reflection she posted on Instagram, Danielle Kelly said:

“I’ve probably taught over 40-50 seminars this past year all over the US. I’ve also made my ONE debut on the biggest stage and ended it with wins and met so many great people. I’ve made adjustments, improving including myself, reconnected with people, learned a lot this year outside of jiu jitsu.”

She added:

“I’m still figuring out as we all are, I’m looking forward to what 2023 will bring. Thank you to everyone that has been in my corner since day one. I’m looking to keep proving myself and why I deserve to be out there.”

Danielle Kelly will kick off her 2023 ONE campaign on February 24 at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video in Bangkok, Thailand, where she faces off against Japanese Ayaka Miura in a catchweight submission grappling bout.

With almost a year now in the promotion, Kelly is grateful to ONE for actively pushing for submission grappling and providing equal opportunities for both male and female fighters under its fold.
