Jarred Brooks is extremely grateful to ONE Championship for taking a chance on him on one of the biggest martial arts platforms in the world.

After three successful fights with the promotion, Jarred Brooks punched his ticket to a world title shot against Filipino icon ‘The Passion’ Joshua Pacio on the main event card at ONE 164.

His quick rise to the top had a lot to do with ONE Championship giving him the opportunity to prove his superstar status in mixed martial arts.

It all began in November 2021, when the promotion decided to throw him into the deep end to face two-time Philippine wushu champion Lito Adiwang at ONE: NextGen 3.

Speaking to MMA Sucka, Brooks briefly explained how his first fight with Lito gave him the confidence boost he needed to pursue higher goals under the promotion:

“I gotta thank ONE Championship for giving me the platform and giving me the opportunity. They could’ve said ‘fuck this American’ and you know push me off to the side. But they gave me that chance and it was against somebody like Lito Adiwang who is a superstar and that bumped me up real quick. It brought my confidence up. That’s all it takes man. It takes confidence, mixed with your fortitude.”

What’s with the ongoing beef between Jarred Brooks and Team Lakay?

Jarred Brooks is stoked to get back into the ring against the last of Team Lakay’s Filipino-based world champion Joshua Pacio. Despite having nothing against Pacio or his team, Brooks could say they’re not exactly fans of one another.

Making quick work of their teammate Lito Adiwang last year, didn’t alarm head coach Mark Sangiao as much as how the events unfurled before Brooks got the submission in the second round.

Sangiao accused Brooks of over-exaggerating a low blow and using it as a smoke screen to recover, before achieving an arm triangle finish.

Brooks was not having it and clapped back at Sangiao through ONE Championship and said:

“I dominated your boy, and I think you’re just mad about it. You want to make every excuse in the book why it happened, like why it didn’t go your way. I mean, if it happened to me, I would have still been in good graces. I would have still been like, ‘Lito, you did a good job. You went out and did your job.'”
