“I don’t suffer” - John Lineker still a fan of ONE’s weight and hydration despite losing belt on the scales

John Lineker lost his ONE bantamweight world title in a way that no fighter wants to lose it; by standing on a scale. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened ahead of ONE on Prime Video 3. ‘Hands of Stone’ failed to make the bantamweight limit prior to his main event showdown with Fabricio ‘Wonder Boy’ Andrade.

Despite the loss, John Lineker has no ill will towards ONE Championship or the promotion’s strict weigh-in process that requires fighters to make weight and pass a hydration test in order to compete. Speaking to the promotion, the hard-hitting Brazillian said:

“The weigh-in took place on a different day and at a different time, and that got in the way of my planning to hit the weight and do the hydration. I was weighing in on the scale I had in the room, but the scale tricked me. I got the weight off just right because I don't suffer to make it in ONE. Their weigh-in method is excellent!”

Despite missing weight, Linker was still allowed to compete in the main event against No.2-ranked contender Fabricio Andrade, with the condition that 20% of his purse goes to his opponent and that he will not be eligible to win back the world title. The two put on a striking showcase that was sadly cut short when Andrade landed a brutal low blow on Lineker.

The knee strike was so severe that it broke Lineker’s protective gear making him incapable of continuing the contest. As a result, the bout was dubbed a no-contest.

John Lineker’s in-room scale indicated he was on point for bantamweight title fight

Continuing to discuss his weigh-in debacle ahead of ONE on Prime Video 3, John Lineker revealed that the scale in his room indicated that he was on weight.

“I thought I was underweight and went calmly to weigh in on the official scale. I went without any pressure because I had made the weight on the room scale. But when I got on the official scale, I was 200 grams (0.44 pounds) over. I didn't understand because, for me, I was in the right weight. But I went for the second try.”

John Lineker continued:

“I hydrated and went to remove the excess liquid. I had a short time, but I did what had to be done and took the weight difference on another scale. When I went to the official scale, again, the weight had not dropped. I did not believe it. I asked to be weighed again, and it wasn't hitting the weight. Crazy stuff!”
