Jonathan Haggerty had a great game plan in place for his scrap with Superlek Kiatmoo9. Unfortunately, 'The General' got a little too eager in the early going and it cost him big.

Determined to successfully defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship in The Mile High City, 'The General' spent months preparing for a clash with 'The Kicking Machine' at ONE 168: Denver.

Sadly, Haggerty would not get the chance to show off his handy work after absorbing a vicious elbow inside a minute of their championship headliner.

Unable to recover, the bout was called off at the 49-second mark and Superlek was crowned the new ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world titleholder—making him the promotion's newest two-sport king.

Discussing the disappointing loss during an appearance on the Sky Sports MMA Club podcast, Jonathan Haggerty offered some insight into the game plan he never got to show off.

"We had a great game plan — just chop him down," Haggerty said. "We knew he liked to attack, counterattack, and just start with respect for his elbows, leg kicks. I think I was just a little bit too eager."

Jonathan Haggerty still holds the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title

Though Jonathan Haggerty was understandably devastated by the loss to Superlek, he did learn a valuable lesson.

"Not to rush in and be aware of the elbows," Haggerty added. "Nah, just take your time, don't let the moment get to you. Don't get too eager to follow the game plan. That's it."

Of course, not all hope is lost for the British fan favorite. After all, he's still the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion and fans are chomping at the bit to see him jump right back into the Circle and defend it.

Against who remains to be seen, but with Wei Rui's impressive win over Hiroki Akimoto in May, he is the top-ranked contender in the division.
