Kayla Harrison was emotional when discussing her devastating loss to Larissa Pacheco at the 2022 PFL Championships.

Pacheco shocked the world when she secured a unanimous decision win against Harrison. Not only was the Olympic gold medalist undefeated, but she also had two wins against the Brazilian. The two-time PFL champion joined Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour and reflected on the loss by saying:

“I understand anytime you step in the cage, anything can happen. That’s why we have fights, you know? So, no, I’m not shocked. I’m disappointed, heartbroken, sad, and also I feel foolish about all of it at the same time, and there’s a lot of layers to it. I’m sure you understand, but I’m not surprised. I understand that this is why we do what we do.”

Helwani then asked Harrison why she felt foolish:

“I live my life out loud, and I talk a lot of s**t. You know, I failed on Friday night. I fell on my face, and that’s a hard thing to, it’s hard to come to terms with.”

Harrison’s loss on November 25 ended her undefeated sixteen-fight run. Meanwhile, Pacheco is at an all-time high. The Brazilian failed to win the 2019 finals against the Olympic gold medalist but now has her revenge and a check for $1 million.

Kayla Harrison announces she’s ‘not done’ in first Instagram post since losing to Larissa Pacheco

Kayla Harrison’s Olympic Judo background and MMA domination have shown similarities to Ronda Rousey in the UFC. Due to Rousey's struggles after losing, some fans questioned how the two-time PFL world champion would react to losing for the first time. Harrison had this to say in the caption of her first Instagram post since losing to Larissa Pacheco:

“I struggle to find the words right now to properly articulate how I’m feeling. I think like the most people when falling short I feel sad. Angry with myself. Disappointed. Heart broken. Nothing stings for me quite like the pain of failure… And I’m not done. Not even close.”

Harrison’s future is foggy, considering she doesn’t seem interested in competing in another full PFL season. The cross-promotion fight against Bellator’s Cris Cyborg is an intriguing option, but the negotiations continue to struggle. Whether it’s in the full-season format or not, it’s difficult to imagine the Olympic gold medalist not seeking a fourth fight against Pacheco.
