Former ONE featherweight champion Martin Nguyen is preparing for his upcoming bout at Kill Cliff FC, where he prefers to train whenever possible.

'The Situ-Asian' will face Russia's Shamil Gasanov at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video in what is a crossroads fight for the veteran after losing three of his last four.

Ahead of the fight, Martin Nguyen spoke with ONE Championship about why he likes training at Kill Cliff FC in Florida, stating:

"It was always the plan to come back to Kill Cliff. Kill Cliff is my home and my team. And I feel that the reason why I didn't come back the last time was just because of late notice. I knew I was fighting but it was like I didn't know for sure until a contract was signed."

The 33-year-old added:

"I didn't want to come over here, and train, and that they come to say that I was still looking for an opponent. There's no motivation behind that for me, training without a signed contract. And so for this one, they gave me the contract straight away. And I just signed in, and I was there, the first flight over."

Martin Nguyen appreciates the killers he trains with

Like many of the world's top MMA gyms, Kill Cliff FC is packed with talented fighters who make each other better every day. Martin Nguyen is grateful for the opportunity to sharpen his skills alongside elite athletes.

He told ONE:

“In Kill Cliff, you're walking in there, you know that you're going to have dedicated teammates there preparing for their own fights or you're helping out other teammates there. Because these guys do it full-time. And we have people from all around the world that do it full-time. So they're here, whether they're in fight camp or not, or preparing for a camp or preparing for a contract or someone in fight condition, you're going to work every single time you get in that gym.”

The former champ is hoping to get back on track with a win over Gasanov. Nguyen's lone victory since 2020 came via knockout against Kirill Gorobets last year.

Make sure to tune in to ONE Fight Night 7 on February 24 to watch Martin Nguyen take on Shamil Gasanov in a pivotal featherweight scrap, live from the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

All the action will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for all Amazon subscribers across North America.
