Former two-division ONE world champion Martin Nguyen is undeniably one of the hardest workers at Kill Cliff FC, but even the best of the best need to blow off a little steam in the gym every once in a while. That’s where Nguyen’s teammate Jason Jackson comes in.

Jackson, who is appropriately nicknamed 'The Ass-Kicking Machine,’ is one of the most feared welterweights under the Bellator MMA banner. However, in the gym, Jackson is a traditional class clown, according to Nguyen. In an interview with the South China Morning Post, ‘The Situ-Asian’ discussed some of the hijinx he gets into with Jackson at the gym once the work is done.

“We had to get him. He’s the team clown and he always brings good vibes. As I said in the description when we train, we train. There’s no clowning around. When we play afterwards and we have a laugh, we kind of have the good vibes hanging around, so yeah."

For Martin Nguyen, loving what you do is important to your quality of life. Those little moments of cutting up after an intense workout make the pain and fatigue all worthwhile.

“One hundred percent you got to break it out, man. You got to love what you do.”

Martin Nguyen is in for a tough test against undefeated Russian Shamil Gasanov

Martin Nguyen may enjoy having a little fun in the gym, but ‘The Situ-Asian’ knows that he has to put in the work if he hopes to hand Russian contender Shamil ‘The Cobra’ Gasanov the first loss of his mixed martial arts career.

Nguyen’s close friend and teammate, Aung La N Sang, shared his thoughts on the bout while speaking with SCMP MMA.

“Every match he’s taken, nobody knows about these guys but they’re good, man. They’re really good. They’re young and hungry lions. And I still believe Martin’s got what it takes. But this fight is a tough one. Shamil is no joke, you know. He’s somebody to look out for, and it’s gonna be a tough one for him. That’s the life we chose, so let’s go.”

Shamil Gasanov will enter the bout with an undefeated record of 13-0. ‘The Cobra’ made his ONE Championship debut in October, earning a first-round submission against South Korean Kim Jae Woong at ONE on Prime Video 3. The performance was good enough to launch Gasanov into the top five featherweight rankings.

Martin Nguyen and Shamil Gasanov will lock horns on February 24 at ONE Fight Night 7. The event is live and free in North America via Prime Video.
