In a night filled with sensational finishes, Superball Tded99 and Kongklai Annymuaythai stole the show in the main event of ONE Friday Fights 5 on February 17 inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

After an epic three-round thriller, Superball walked away with the unanimous decision victory in their Muay Thai catchweight bout at 138 lbs. Shortly after both Thai fighters performed the ceremonial Wai Kru, they wasted no time and traded heavy artillery.

Superball, who was fighting in 4 oz. gloves for the first time, had a lot of success in close range, landing damaging elbows and punches in the clinch. Kongklai tried to separate and fight at his preferred distance, but the 26-year-old southpaw peppered him with heavy leg kicks and sharp hooks.

The action picked up in round 2, where both fighters traded knockdowns in the opening minute.

Superball kept his frenzied pace and once again nailed his compatriot from close range. The Tded99 gym standout then threw a massive high left head kick that dropped Kongklai. After surviving the standing count, Kongklai returned with a vengeance and took the fight to Superball.

The 24-year-old power puncher returned the favor with a massive right cross and sent Superball to the canvas. Smelling blood in the waters, Kongklai let his hands go and displayed incredible hand speed with lethal punch combinations.

Superball, however, soldiered on and ended the round strong by regaining his bearings in the clinch. The final round was a back-and-forth affair, with neither fighter giving an inch. Kongklai was having success in mid-range as his punches snuck through Superball’s defenses.

Superball, however, continued to assert his dominance in the clinch with short knees and elbows. Kongklai tagged his opponent with another strong right hand near the end of the fight and was confident heading into the judges’ scorecards. Superball’s constant barrage in the clinch earned him the victory.

Speaking to Mitch Chilson post-fight, Superball said he had to dig deep to beat a formidable foe like Kongklai:

“That was my plan for tonight. He was very good with his fists and I cannot just keep using my knees. I had to adapt and use all my weapons.”

Meanwhile, ONE Chairman Chatri Sityodtong was very impressed with both fighters and decided to reward them each with a 350,000 baht performance bonus.
