Takeru Segawa is "very happy" to fight inside the "Hall of Fame venue" of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
In January, Takeru, a former three-division K-1 champion, made his highly-anticipated ONE Championship debut. The Japanese kickboxing superstar received an opportunity to become the ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion against Superlek, but the latter retained his throne by unanimous decision.
On Friday, September 27, Takeru will make his second ONE Championship appearance during a pay-per-view event, ONE Friday Fights 81. The 33-year-old is scheduled to fight in the co-main event against Thant Zin, a 19-year-old with a promotional Muay Thai record of 2-0, both knockouts.
Takeru's first fight under the ONE banner took place inside the Ariake Arena in Japan. This time around, 'The Natural Born Crusher' will face Zin inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Takeru had this to say about fighting in Lumpinee during an interview with the South China Morning Post:
"I fought at Rajadamnern Stadium when I was still in high school, so I am very happy to be able to fight at Lumpinee, another great Hall of Fame venue.”
ONE Friday Fights 81 will be headlined by an action-packed featherweight Muay Thai matchup between Superbon and Jo Nattawut. Next Friday's event also featuring Takeru Segawa can be seen in North America via pay-per-view.
Takeru Segawa looks to secure super-fights with win at ONE Friday Fights 81
Thant Zin is a young and dangerous fighter who deserves respect heading into his fight against Takeru Segawa. With that said, Takeru came to ONE to face proven superstars, which will be what's next if he wins at ONE Friday Fights 81.
Following ONE Friday Fights 81, there are two kickboxing matchups that Takeru's fans continue to call for - a rematch against two-sport world champion Superlek and a guaranteed banger against ONE flyweight Muay Thai king Rodtang.
Firstly, Takeru can't overlook his upcoming opponent, Zin. The Japanese kickboxing superstar is coming over a brutal war against Superlek, so he needs to prove the leg injuries he suffered won't have a lasting effect.
