Top jiu-jitsu athletes Reinier de Ridder and Tye Ruotolo will get to showcase their grappling skills at ONE Championship’s first event in the United States in May.

Reinier de Ridder, the reigning ONE middleweight world champion in MMA, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom Ruotolo will battle in a submission grappling super-fight at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video on May 5 in Broomfield, Colorado.

Renier 'The Dutch Knight' de Ridder will make his return to submission grappling after spending his last three fights competing in MMA.

He last fought in submission grappling at ONE: X in March last year against Brazilian Andre Galvao, which ended in a draw (technical decision). Galvao, incidentally, is the coach of Ruotolo and one of the founders of Atos.

The Dutchman has been dominating the competition in ONE with his submission skills, something he looks to continue at ONE Fight Night 10.

Ruotolo, for his part, has become one of the faces of submission grappling in the promotion, along with his twin brother Kade, the ONE lightweight submission grappling world champion.

He made his promotional debut in May last year and has been undefeated in two fights to date, all by way of submission in the opening round.

In taking on de Ridder in the super-fight, Ruotolo wants to test the submission skills of the Dutchman and sees himself emerging on top. He said to ONE Championship:

“I see Reinier de Ridder says he can sub anyone in the world. I’d definitely like to test that. He’s a bit taller, but I think I can definitely sub him.”

ONE Fight Night 10 is headlined by the trilogy fight between reigning ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson and rival Adriano 'Mikinho' Moraes. It will be aired live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Reinier de Ridder trolls the Ruotolo brothers

ONE middleweight world champion Reinier de Ridder has teased competing in submission grappling numerous times previously and ONE Championship is giving him a chance.

'The Dutch Knight' makes his return to the sport in a submission grappling super-fight against American phenom Tye Ruotolo at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5.

The two fighters will showcase their submission skills in the promotion’s first-ever live event in the United States, happening at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

On Instagram, de Ridder posted a photo of himself and Ruotolo, along with his twin brother Kade, with a caption friendly calling out the brothers for a grappling showdown. The caption read:

"Here's a picture of me and my sons. Do you think one of them can beat their dad in a grappling match already?"

Weeks later, ONE made it a reality by pitting de Ridder and Ruotolo in a featured fight at ONE Fight Night 10. Both fighters expressed excitement over their upcoming encounter, part of the promotion’s conscious effort to expand its offering beyond MMA.
