MMA News: Ronda Rousey to fight Amanda Nunes at UFC 207

She’s back!

UFC President Dana White dropped a bomb in his interview via ‘The Herd’ on FS1 with his announcement about the return of the former UFC women’s bantamweight champ, Ronda Rousey. White announced that Rousey will be getting a shot a the bantamweight title against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on 30th December at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.

Ronda was knocked out cold by a brutal high kick to the neck by Holly Holm on 15th November 2015 at UFC 193 in one of the most talked about knockouts of the decade. Her three-year reign as the bantamweight champ was one of the most dominant title reigns the world of mixed martial arts had ever witnessed. Things went downhill for the former Olympic Bronze medallist since her famous knockout. Rousey had to undergo several surgeries to recover from the physical damages she had suffered in the fight. In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres in February 2016, Ronda even admitted having thoughts of committing suicide in the aftermath of her shocking loss to Holm at UFC 193.

There were speculations about whether Ronda would ever step up in the Octagon again. However, much to the delight of MMA fans all over the world, Rousey will finally be fighting again after being out of action for almost over a year. Amanda Nunes won the bantamweight belt with a submission victory over Miesha Tate at UFC 200 and is currently enjoying a four-fight win streak.

UFC announced its main event for the year-end card on twitter in the following tweets-

Rousey used the hashtag #FeartheReturn in her tweet regarding her return-

There were reports about Rousey facing Cris Cyborg in her return but Dana White talked about Rousey’s prioritizing winning her belt back more than a fight against Cyborg. However, he assured that a Rousey vs Cyborg fight is ‘denitely’ happening.

White said : “I know that Cyborg wants that fight. Ronda wants that fight, too. Ronda's plan right now is to come back and try to win her title back and if that happens, the Cyborg fight will definitely happen.”

Dana White had earlier said in an interview that Rousey’s return will be the biggest PPV in the history of the UFC and by the looks of it, he was totally right!
