'Super' Sage Northcutt struggled in his ONE Championship debut back in 2019. He suffered a first-round knockout whilst fighting in a weight class much larger than his usual.

In the UFC, Northcutt competed at 155 and 170 pounds. When he made the move to ONE, he tried his luck at 185, which had disastrous consequences. The knockout caused multiple fractures to his face, keeping him out of competition for years.

Discussing his debut in ONE Championship, 'Super' Sage spoke with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. The 26-year-old fighter explained:

"It was more like a learning experience. Obviously that weight class is a huge weight class. Looking back I shouldn’t have fought at 185. I was new to the hydration test - that’s a first for me. Fighting at 170, that’s my natural weight. Right now, I walk around like 175. I’m right there close to my weight already and I’m three and a half months out so that’s like a learning experience for me."

Sage Northcutt will soon be making his comeback fight later this year at 170 pounds. The American athlete has been booked against Ahmed Mujtaba at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, set for May 5. The 1st Bank Arena in Colorado will be home to ONE's debut event in the United States.

All the action will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for all Amazon subscribers across North America.

Sage Northcutt on his return to action

After years away, Northcutt will be back in action soon. After such a lengthy hiatus, the 26-year-old fighter is eager to show fans around the globe his skills in the ONE Circle.

While speaking with Ariel Helwani, Sage Northcutt explained:

"Coming into ONE Championship, I didn’t really get to show what I truly can do. And it was unfortunate what happened in my first fight with ONE Championship. But I’m coming off the UFC where I was fighting before, my last three fights consecutively, I was on a three-fight win streak.”

The American fighter simply cannot wait for his return at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5. He added:

“I’m definitely itching to get back out there. I’m super excited. It’s been a long time. I’m super excited for it, yeah three and a half months man that’s gonna be hard to wait for that’s for sure.”
