Terence Crawford vs. Israel Madrimov is in the books. The highly anticipated boxing event took place on Aug. 3 at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California. It featured eight fights in seven weight classes, including four title fights. This article recaps the event and explores the full results.

In the main event, welterweight champion Terence Crawford challenged newly crowned WBA super welterweight champion Israil Madrimov for the title. In July 2023, Crawford defeated Errol Spence Jr. in a title unification bout to become the WBA, WBO, WBC, and IBF welterweight champion.

With the win, he became the first boxer to win the undisputed title in two weight classes in the four-belt era of boxing. He has won titles in the three weight classes so far. After the negotiations for the Spence Jr. rematch fell through, Crawford challenged Madrimov to start the championship quest in a fourth division.

Madrimov, who captured the vacant WBA super welterweight title by defeating Magomed Kurbanov in March, is a relative newcomer in the professional boxing circuit. He held a 10-0-1 record heading into the Crawford fight.

Madrimov started on a cautious note, giving different looks with feints to understand the patterns and get the reads. Meanwhile, Crawford committed to calculated offense from the get-go but allowed Madrimov to move forward.

While Crawford seemed to land more, Madrimov appeared to be landing cleaner strikes with better accuracy. 'Bud' struggled to counter Madrimov's awkward fighting style as the Uzbek boxer opened up in the later rounds with increased output.

However, Crawford decisively took control in the 11th and 12th rounds, landing the most powerful shots of the fight. But his aggression could not intimidate Madrimov, who kept firing back until the final bell.

Crawford won the closely contested bout by unanimous decision to become the WBA super welterweight champion. However, Madrimov snapped the American boxer's 11-fight finish streak.

The win over Madrimov will likely lead Crawford to the Spence Jr. rematch as 'The Truth' will challenge Sebastian Fundora for the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles in October.

In the co-main event, WBA super lightweight champion Isaac Cruz returned to competition to defend the title against Jose Venezuela. Cruz has gained notoriety in recent times for his fan-friendly fighting style and he is also one of the two fighters who went the distance against Gervonta Davis.

'Pitbull' captured the title by stopping Rolando Romero in the eighth round of their 12-round title fight in March. His decision to attempt the first defense of the title against Venezuela came as a surprise since 'Rayo' lost two of his last three bouts. He got back in the win column with a sixth-round KO of Chris Colbert in December 2023.

Cruz threw caution to the wind and started stalking Venezuela while throwing stinging shots. The challenger maintained composure but struggled to keep the charging Cruz off in the early rounds.

As the rounds progressed, Venezuela assumed the role of a patient counterstriker and started clipping Cruz with intercepting shots to relieve the pressure and reset. Venezuela's jab proved to be an effective weapon to keep the fight at his preferred range and he reversed the momentum by the mid-way point of the fight, pressuring Cruz backward.

Cruz, who struggled to adjust the game plan, had his moments in the 11th round when he landed a flurry of clean strikes. However, Venezuela did enough to convince the judges and secured a split-decision victory to become the new WBA super lightweight champion.

Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov undercard results: David Morrell and Andy Cruz win titles, Martin Bakole upsets Jared Anderson

Former heavyweight title holder Andy Ruiz ended his two-year hiatus to fight controversial boxer Jarrell Miller on the main card. After losing the heavyweight title to Anthony Joshua in their December 2019 rematch, Ruiz amassed two straight wins, defeating Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz in May 2021 and September 2022, respectively.

Meanwhile, Miller was coming off the first loss of his professional boxing career, a 10th-round TKO against Daniel Dubois in December 2023. Miller's chequered past due to several positive drug tests has loomed large over his career in recent times. However, many expected him to outwork Ruiz, who had won the title after Miller was forced to pull out of the Joshua fight due to a positive drug test.

Ruiz picked up the pace after a relatively uneventful first round and assumed control of the ring, landing the more meaningful shots in the first half of the fight. However, Miller maintained a sustained attack on the head, and primarily on the body, visibly slowing the former champion down as the fight progressed.

Miller appeared to be stealing the fight away from Ruiz, who struggled to maintain the pace in the middle rounds. To everyone's surprise, the Mexican found a second wind in the later rounds and started firing back. However, Miller efficiently used his energy and allowed Ruiz to enjoy only limited success until the final bell.

While many felt that Miller had done enough to secure a victory, the judges scored the bout a majority draw. Ruiz revealed that he broke his right hand in the fifth round, which might have impacted his performance in the fight.

Highly touted heavyweight boxer Jared Anderson, who was hoping to fight former champion Deontay Wilder in 2024, fought Martin Bakole in the main card opening bout. Many considered this the toughest challenge of Anderson's career. Some experts even claimed that it was a "terrible" matchup that the rising contender "might lose."

Bakole, who weighed 284 pounds, appeared to have a significant size advantage in the ring. Interestingly, he offered no resistance to the stinging body shots and kept walking through them to get in close range. Anderson's head shots couldn't make the difference either.

A perfectly timed uppercut put Anderson on the shaky legs and Bakole dropped him with a looping right hand with less than 10 seconds left in the first round. Anderson survived the scare and made the fight a lot more competitive in the following rounds.

However, Bakole systematically broke the American boxer and dropped him with a similar uppercut in the fifth round. Anderson answered the 10-count only to suffer another knockdown. 'The Real Big Baby' showed incredible toughness and got back on his feet but was quickly finished on the feet.

Undefeated David Morrell made his light heavyweight debut as he fought Radivoje Kalajdzic for the vacant WBA regular light heavyweight title in the main card opening bout. While Kalajdzic was the more experienced boxer of the two, the 26-year-old Morrell had the youth on his side. The adversaries had 30 KO wins between them and there was a high probability of the fight ending in a finish.

Morrell was in control of the fight from the opening bell while Kalajdzic tried to shift the momentum to his side. However, Morrell's confidence kept growing as the rounds progressed while the frustration was noticeable in Kalajdzic's corner.

Morrell continued to maintain the lead and cruised to a unanimous decision victory to capture the WBA (Regular) light heavyweight title. Although Morrell won the majority of the rounds, the margin appeared to be thin.

2020 Olympic gold medalist boxer Andy Cruz fought the always-dangerous Antonio Moran for the IBF International lightweight title. Moran, a veteran of 37 professional boxing matches, had a massive advantage in terms of experience against Cruz, who turned pro in 2023 and held a 3-0 professional boxing record heading into the fight.

Moran was the aggressor from the get-go and tried to overwhelm the relative newcomer with volume. However, Cruz maintained composure and frustrated Moran with elusive footwork and effective counters through the first four rounds.

Moran never abandoned his aggressive stance and kept pressing the action, eventually hurting Cruz with a left hook and getting close to a finish in the waning seconds of the fourth round. Emboldened by the success, Moran continued to press the action while forcing Cruz to stay committed to defense.

As Moran tried to trap Cruz against the ropes in the seventh round, he ate a thunderous jab that rocked him. Cruz never let him off the hook and continued to land powerful strikes, eventually forcing the referee to call a standing knockdown. Moran stumbled across the ring during the 10-count and the referee called a stop to the contest. With the win, Cruz became the IBF International lightweight champion.

On the preliminary card, Steven Nelson defeated Marcos Ramon Vazquez by a fifth-round KO to extend his professional boxing record to a perfect 20-0. Meanwhile, Ziyad Almaayouf vs. Michal Bulik resulted in a majority draw.
