While the fight was an entertaining affair, MMA social media took notice of a moment where Cortez's artificial eyelash flew off in the air as Namajunas' punch glanced at it.

'Thug' stung Cortez with a left hook and followed it up with a straight right. The punch missed the jaw of Cortez, who was getting knocked down from the impact of the left hook, but caused her eyelash to fly off. @DovySimuMMA posted the video clip of this instance on X.

Cortez accepted the Namajunas fight on short notice after the former strawweight champion's original opponent, Maycee Barber, was forced to pull out due to a health issue. Namajunas marked the biggest challenge of the 30-year-old's professional MMA career so far.

Despite the massive difference in terms of elite competitive experience, Cortez held her own against 'Thug'. However, she could not get the better of Namajunas in the striking or grappling department, losing the bout by unanimous decision. She also suffered the only knockdown of the fight.

To her credit, Cortez survived Namajunas' submission attempts and made the fight more competitive with a brawling approach. But the cumulative impact could not deter 'Thug' from imposing her game.

The loss against Namajunas snapped Cortez's 11-fight career win streak. She is now 5-1 in the UFC. Meanwhile, this was Namajunas' second win since moving up to flyweight. She now holds a 2-1 record in the division.
