“The whole country is watching me” - Denice Zamboanga eager to make the entire Philippines proud at ONE Fight Night 27

Denice Zamboanga uses her love for the Philippines to motivate her in training.

In December 2019, Zamboanga made her ONE Championship debut, defeating Jihin Radzuan by unanimous decision. The Filipino superstar has since become a significant contender in the women's atomweight MMA division.

On Jan. 10, 2025, Zamboanga will make her ninth promotional appearance at ONE Fight Night 27. The 27-year-old has a massive opportunity to claim ONE gold for the first time, as she's scheduled to face Alyona Rassohyna for the interim women's atomweight MMA world title.

Zamboanga recently appeared in an interview with The MMA Superfan and had this to say about one of her motivations while training:

"I use it as motivation, so I really do my best in training. I’ve learned to use it as a great motivator for me that the whole country is watching me."

Alyona Rassohyna hasn't fought in ONE Championship since September 2021. The Ukranian atomweight has two promotional appearances, splitting a series with now-ONE women's atomweight MMA world champion Stamp Fairtex.

Zamboanga has fought four times during Rassohyna's extended layoff, including an ongoing three-fight winning streak. Zamboanga's last fight was a unanimous decision win against Noelle Grandjean on June 7.

Denice Zamboanga closing in on ultimate showdown against Stamp Fairtex

Earlier this year, Stamp Fairtex announced she suffered a torn meniscus while training for her fight with Denice Zamboanga. Stamp is nearing the end of her recovery process, making the upcoming interim atomweight MMA title fight more important.

Stamp vs. Zamboanga was an intriguing matchup due to them being close friends and former training partners. With a win at ONE Fight Night 27, 'The Menace' would raise the stakes of a fight against the Thai megastar, as they'd both enter the events with ONE gold around their waist.

ONE Fight Night 27 will take place inside the legendary combat sports venue of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America and Canada can watch the January 2025 event live and for free as it happens in US Primetime.
