Fans were pleased to watch Serghei Spivac defeat Greg Hardy at UFC 272 in March 2022. Spivac handed the former NFL player his third consecutive loss, ending his tenure with the UFC.

Despite the visible size advantage, Hardy struggled to keep the fight standing as Spivac scored repeated takedowns and secured a first-round TKO victory by ground-and-pound. Owing to his controversial past, Hardy enjoyed little fan support during his UFC tenure and fans seemed to cheer Serghei Spivac on as he dominated the 36-year-old.

MeSmeshFruit posted the fight highlights on Reddit shortly after the event.

Fans took to the comments section and shared their thoughts on Greg Hardy vs. Serghei Spivac.

"The way Spivac essentially toyed with Hardy in the clinch and the wrestling is just damn fun to watch. There's levels to this sh**," Difficult_Bicycle796 commented.
"This just shows how much technique is important, Spivac was handling him like he got 40 lbs edge over Hardy, not vice versa," narco_money commented.

"Letting Greg Hardy in the UFC was one of Dana's dumbest mistakes. Signing a guy who the NFL cut (due to domestic abuse) just makes the sport look bad," John2224444 commented.
"This is what you get," BaddyVedder commented.
"Greg not-so-hardy anymore," @MRimla commented.
"Like thrashing around with a water buffalo. Get him tf outta here. Good riddance," disheveledf**k commented.

Hardy, who primarily played for the Carolina Panthers in his NFL career, was found guilty of domestic violence in 2014. The NFL suspended him for violating its policies. Following the controversy, Hardy started a career in MMA. He subsequently signed a contract with the UFC but fight fans and media heavily criticized the promotion's decision to take the controversial NFL player on board.

Despite initial success, Hardy could not hold his own against the increasingly stiff competition and ended his UFC tenure with a 4-5-1NC record.

Serghei Spivac will return to competition at UFC Vegas 95

The win over Greg Hardy marked the beginning of a three-fight win streak for Serghei Spivac. He went on to defeat Augusto Sakai and Derrick Lewis in the subsequent bouts. However, a second-round TKO defeat against Ciryl Gane in September 2023 snapped Spivac's win streak.

The No.9-ranked UFC heavyweight will return to competition against former foe and No.8-ranked Marcin Tybura at UFC Vegas 95. The event will take place at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 10.

The fight is the rematch of their first meeting that took place in February 2020 where Tybura walked away with a unanimous decision victory.
