For Kamaru Usman, being one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world does have its perks and one of them is mingling with top athletes in other sports.
Usman shared a photo on his Instagram account this past September of his meeting with legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady on the football field. 'The Nigerian Nightmare' was clearly excited and added a short caption, writing:
"LEGENDARY MOMENTS"
The former UFC welterweight champion was on the sidelines and even shared a video of the New Orleans Saints warming up. Brady is arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history and holds the record for the most Super Bowl wins with seven and most Super Bowl MVPs with five.
Is Kamaru Usman out of his rumored trilogy bout against Leon Edwards?
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Kamaru Usman's injury status as the rumored main event between 'The Nigerian Nightmare' and Leon Edwards has yet to be made official.
When the UFC announced that the O2 Arena in London would be hosting UFC 286, it seemed like it was a forgone conclusion that the trilogy would be announced as well. But that wasn't the case and there has since been speculation that the former welterweight champion will be replaced with another fighter.
Edwards shocked the MMA world this past August when he rallied in the fifth round to knockout 'The Nigerian Nightmare' and become the new welterweight champion.
Chael Sonnen uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he weighed in on the welterweight title situation. He mentioned that Jorge Masvidal is a surprising name that has emerged as a potential replacement, saying:
"Masvidal appears to me to be putting a lot of eggs in the basket of Kamaru Usman doesn't show up in March, he steps in. Three-piece and a soda gets answered for, It's a risk, it's an outside shot." {4:59 - 5:16}
Welterweight contender Belal Muhammad has also thrown his name in the mix and has teased that he could be challenging 'Rocky' for the welterweight champion in a rematch of their 2021 bout that ended in a no-contest.
