Through the first two rounds, Usman controlled Buckley with strong positional control and ground-and-pound strikes, opening a cut above his right eyelid.

Buckley opened up with strikes after the midway point and his cardio held up despite getting controlled on the ground for long stretches. He also landed a few good strikes in the stand-up, but his takedown defence could not hold up. Usman continued to assert dominance on the ground, accumulating control time and ground strikes.

Buckey defended the takedowns in the final round and landed several stinging shots. However, Usman remained defensively responsible and negated any possibility of a come-from-behind win for Buckley.

All three judges scored the contest in Usman's favor, declaring him the winner by unanimous decision. (49-46 X 2, 48-47)
