The premier mixed martial arts organization UFC recently announced its plans to return to Charlotte, North Carolina after a three-year hiatus. The upcoming event, scheduled for May 13th, will be held at the Spectrum Center and marks the organization's first visit to the city since 2018.

The announcement will no doubt be welcomed by MMA fans in the region, who will have the opportunity to witness some of the sport's top athletes in action. The news also highlights the UFC's ongoing efforts to expand its presence and reach new audiences across the United States and beyond.

The upcoming May Fight Night event in Charlotte will mark a significant moment for the UFC, as it will only be the second time in the last decade that the organization has held an event in the city. Despite this, Charlotte has a long history with the promotion, having hosted some of the promotion's earliest events, including Ultimate Fighting Championship 3 and 5 in 1994 and 1995, respectively.

More recently, the city has hosted events in 2010 and 2018, and the upcoming event will be the first since ESPN assumed media rights from Fox. Although the full fight card for the upcoming Fight Night event in Charlotte has not been officially announced, speculation is that a five-round light heavyweight bout is set to take place between former 205-pound title challenger Anthony Smith and Johnny Walker.

Efforts were made by the organization to feature a bantamweight clash between Merab Dvalishvili and Umar Nurmagomedov on the upcoming fight card. Unfortunately, the fight did not come to fruition for unspecified reasons, leaving fans disappointed that they would not be able to witness the two promising contenders face off against each other.
